The intent is you always move forward...never back. The Devs heard our angst and provide us with bases to call home until we finally reached the center...but they were never really expected to be permanent homes.
As you can see, people did make homes.
But I think the Devs still don't want people to get to a point where they lose the need to explore. Set it up right, and most systems or multi-systems via teleport, can supply your every need....never need to go away.
Ok, this is already where we are people.
They are displayed on one of your ships screens as well.
The rest is figuring out how the numbers behave (flying cardinal headings to do so helps), and go from there... a bit on the long-winded side, but it works.

However, if you just want to find a place on planet to sell, try this: Lift off in your starship, press "C" (on a PC) to activate your scanner, then look around as you fly. A house icon will represent all "buildings" making them easy to find. Many sites can be eliminated just by flying by while others require you to land. My 3rd attempt (flying by) resulted in finding a huge platform with an obvious Galactic Trade Terminal. Maybe this will help someone.
No idea on the technical side of things but save beacons are limited to 5 per a planet per player. They can also conveniently be coloured to find easily from space. Five save beacons in practice is plenty considering you can also have almost limitless named base computers in a system.
Landing in a multi-player hub system there is a lot to download which can severely hit FPS performance on lower spec platforms. Presumably a decision was made not to enable the game to track named and discovered buildings? Or maybe it just hasn't been implemented for whatever reason or until there is a useful reason. There used to be a working screenshot picture function with with saved building locations, but they may be bugged at the moment. Saved cache folders may be smaller for not having to recall pictures from a large main save folder.
It used to be a thing the game worked out how far waypoints were from your position and could be seen as a number light years. That could help navigate your ship closer to the centre of galaxies with or without black hole travel. That was removed too or was forgotten to be put back following an update years ago. It's a pity it is not there as it gave a sense of scale to your journey seeing the distance. You had a reason to travel closer to...something.
