Deleting base
If I delete my one and only base in the interest of starting fresh in a new more desirable star system, everything in my vault storage, my nip nip plants... does it get saved? I'm not clear on what gets lost forever and what transfers once I start up a new base...

Build your new base, then move everything over before you delete your old base. That way you loose nothing.

The game "remembers" what you have stored in the Storage vaults, it is safe to delete them and rebuild them elsewhere, or even onboard your freighter.
Half the resources used in constructing a base transfer to a storage overflow unit when destroying a base. You can build the unit at the new base and access the resources. So there is a small penalty but hurts very little. Any items stored in the storage container inventories 0-9 will NOT be destroyed and everything can be accessed again once you rebuild them.

Off topic a little - but freighter bases DO get destroyed and nothing is returned when you change or swap freighters. You can though build the overflow unit on a freighter and the storage containers. By the time you have a freighter anyway you'll be well prepared for what you need.

As above dismantle anything you DO want to keep on a freighter or a ground base. In the current game building resources can be easily purchased in great quantities from almost any space station.

When you say "dismantle anything you DO want to keep on a freighter or a ground base." What do you mean?

Storage containers keep your stuff and portable items obviously go in your inventory. What else can I manually salvage before I delete base?

Oh sorry, to be clearer if you have built a freighter base for exmple with rooms and decorations like chairs (using Star Silk difficult to find) or have placed a lot of found alien glitch items you might have collected or any decoration item or building part they all use resources. Rooms on freighters need silver, gold even chromatic metal Seed trays and so on need carbon? Then dismantling them will reclaim 100% resources. You can then use the reources to rebuild things as they were. Otherwise you would have to go search for resources or gather items again.

In the later stages of the game you'll find that resources are VERY easy to gather in lots of different ways. But losing some tediously obtained glitch decorations etc might be frustrating.

I use freighters a lot to indirectly store resources as furniture :D

What happens to your land vehicles if you delete your base? Do your vehicles keep all of the upgrades when you build them at new base?

Yeah, the exocraft keep their upgrades and cargo when you re-summon them in a different place.

You'll get the resources used to build the bio domes etc.
When you rebuild the work station the base help appears.

Thank you so much for the answers guys

Its best you build your new base first and then move things over. The safes work like a registry, so each safe storage with a number on it will remember items you put in that safe. ex: Items put in safe 0 will re-appear once you rebuild safe 0 on your new base. If you build all the terminals in your new base you can just walk up to the staff and tell them to move to your other base.

Whoa... say what now? If I go build a new base, just add my employee terminals, ask which one to move my base? And does it show up completely intact so no rebuilding?

Yeah I believe thats how it works. Just make sure you are not in a middle of some mission for any of the overseers. This only applies for bases on planets. I got no clue how the frigate works as I have never gotten far enough into the game to purchase one.

If you are just starting out, it is best to leave some small amount of your first base...could just have a small shack and teleporter. If you plan to play the main mission, it expects you will build where you were instructed for the purposes of future sub-missions.

You can have as many bases as you want...within reason, so no real reason to ever delete a base.

Is it better to manually delete walls and buildings exedra before deleting the base on the computer? Do you get any more material back doing it that way?

Is there anything I should do before I delete base from base computer?
