Easy way to get lots of Chomatic Metal?
So I need a lot of Chromatic Metal, and I don't have a lot of Copper. Is there an easier way than search for hours on planets for copper deposits?
I wouldn't really mind searching if the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ nodes of the Analysis Scanner would disappear when the deposit is empty (not just for Copper, but all deposits). Just because there's a tiny spec, doesn't mean to keep the area as a possible spot for that mineral.

EDIT: I do not have access to Indium, as I require the Indium Drive to reach blue systems. I don't even have the Cadium Drive, and don't know what station would sell it.

fight pirates in space or if you have mining frigates you can land on them and you will get also chromatic metal

I've found that the Concentrated Indium* you can mine convert 1:25 chromatic or something,
You get a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥

here's what i do: (only works with med or large refiners)

1. Collect a fair amount of copper, i usually get about 200 or so.

2. I convert about half to chromatic metal using pure ferrite to reduce the rate to 1:1.

3. I put copper and chromatic metal into the refiner to double my copper.

4. Rinse. Repeat.

(This does require a lot of pure ferrite but collecting rusted metal provides more than enough.)

Your steps seem similar to a video I just watched that was made 5 months ago, of someone who used a large refiner and combined Copper with Chomatic Metal (and was able to double their Copper), yet I've been heard this got patched since then.
I do have a Medium refiner, so.. maybe there's hope?

A Medium Refiner works and you do not need pure Ferrite (I never use it)

1... Refine 2/3rd of your copper to chromatic metal (So you have just as much Chromatic as Copper)
2... Refine Chromatic and Copper to get 4x copper

repeat 1 and 2...

If you do use Pure Ferrite, you do not need 2/3rd of your copper, but Half. The reason i do not use it, is because it is more handling and i am lazy... My solution works good enough.
BTW. This also works for Cadmium, Emeril and Indium.

Last BTW. If you have the large refiner, you could also refine 1 Silver, 1 Gold and 1 Copper to get 5 Chromatic metal (10 if Cadmium, 20 if Emeril, 30!! if Indium)

It's not a bug so it wouldn't be patched. It's one of the recipes I use most.

without pure ferrite in the mix you are making chromatic metal at 2 copper for 1 chromatic metal then converting chromatic metal back to copper at 1 copper and 1 chromatic metal for 2 copper... seems to me that adding pure ferrite increases the output and with the abundant rusted metal making so much ferrite which makes pure ferrite there is no reason not to use it

but it is the player's choice, after all

If you can get your hands on at least 6 indium, you can infinitely duplicate it.

Convert 2 indium into 4 chromatic metal
Convert 4 indium + 4 chromatic into 8 indium
Repeat the ratio forever to basically create indium (and thus chromatic metal) out of thin air.
TheBMT Feb 26, 2020 @ 7:32am
Activated Indium is great for conversion

But so is just buying chromatic metal. Find a station that sells large quantities and just stock up.
Die Hand Gottes Feb 26, 2020 @ 7:39am
Copper Cadmium Emeril and Indium
easy to convert with a refinery
the higher the quality of the material the higher the conversion ratio
Activated indium is the best
Jawrill Feb 26, 2020 @ 10:12am
Go on a blue system and you will have endless Chromatic.
The indium is special has you can duplicate it endlessly and so make river of chromatic.

take 12 Indium
use a third (4) in refiner will give you 8 Chromatic. So now you have 8 Indium + 8 Chromatic
put them in refiner 8 Indium + 8 Chromatic => 16 Indium.
Start again.

So if you start with 180 Indium, make it 14 time and you will have more than 10K Indium that you can refine in 20K chromatic.

(you can't do it with "activated ****" as you can only get them by mining and not by refining)

I require an Indium Drive to reach Blue systems. I only have a Hyperdrive.
MrMesmer Feb 26, 2020 @ 11:43am
Gold x1 + Silver x1 + Indium x1 → Chromatic Metal x30 (0.6 sec./unit output, large refiner)
Gojak_v3 Feb 26, 2020 @ 11:57am
If you have a double refiner you can pair yer copper with pure ferrite and double the amount of chromatic metal you get. If you have the triple refiner 1 gold + 1 silver + 1 copper = 5 chromatic metal. Also if you find a planet with activated copper it will refine for double the metal. You can also put the activated copper in a double refiner with pure ferrite and get double the metal like with normal copper.

I was doing a mission Rescue Freighter in open space. Kill the pirates attackin the freighter then answer the freighter`s call go inside talk to captain check ships price or demand a reward for helping him. Chromatic Metals i always get 179` ish. Goodluck
Sometimes I get bored refining so just fly into space and destroy freighter pods full of Chromatic metal, which is what they float in space for. Other resources also plentiful.

If you're worried about losing faction points just collect the relics to give to NPCs later.

Much more fun and more than enough for me. Quick and easy using the right weapon and protection.
