How to add new ships to my fleet?

I want to add more capital ships to my freighter fleet.

I keep investigating freighters, but they always want to swap for the freighter I have, which is better anyway.

How can I add the smaller expedition ships to my collection?

Ok, you must know: there are freighters (the big ones) and there are frigates which you can buy up to 30. You can only have 1 freighter.
Once you have a freighter, speak to the navigator which is on the bridge, he will tell you to build a 'Command room'. Do it. This room is necessary to give missions to your future frigates, 5 frigates per room, otherwise you need to build more rooms.

Then, go and buy frigates as you see them (you can do it before building the rooms in the freighter), I advice to buy only C-Class ones and frigates for each type (combat, exploration, trading, support, industrial). Frigates get better the more missions they do and they promote to higher ranks anyway , so it's futile to buy A or S class frigates immediately.

Tip: Chose your frigates to buy wisely, since v.1.63 you won't be able to delete them anymore, unless they die in combat.

To pick missions for frigates, speak again with Navigator on bridge, the mission list will fire-up and you can chose missions.

Yeah I went to edit my fleet of frigates and came to realize I can't delete them anymore.
Why on earth would Hello Games remove that ability!? It's like they have an obsession with hoarding.
Can't sell starships, can't sell or get rid of frieighters, and now you can't even delete frigates. Soon enough you won't be able to sell items, just buy them.
Please tell me they're noticing this desire from players, cuz this is really dumb that I can't just get rid of anything in this game.

It's dumb not being able to sell ships you don't want/need any more. However, if frigates do upgrade with missions, it's not so much of an issue. The only problem is not buying an even spread of frigates for the mission types. I have 12 frigates and already, half my frigate fleet is combat but all I ever see for sale is combat frigates now.

The type of frigates you find in systems is directly based on that system's "Conflict Level" and their "Economy".

A system not at war will not have any Combat Frigates spawning. If it has a Mining Economy then you will find primarily "Industrial" frigates. Same goes for traders and explorers and economy types that favor those ships.

Yeah, this 'bug' of never being able to remove fleet ships from your fleet to make way for others is one serious irritation. I have a full fleet. I do not have a good spread though, as I got a majority of Supply frigates back when I started. I now am maxed out.
There is NO WAY TO DELETE sepcific fleet ships from the fleet. Easy to remove from an assignment (middle-mouse button), but no way you can ever remove actual ships from the fleet. Gods help you if you have like 20 Support ships as you'll never have space to handle the max. five expeditions.
This is one of a couple of reasons I do not play this game as much as others. And I do not think Hello will make any change to this so just be very careful to get a good spread off different ships when you add to your fleet. Again, this is NOT regarding your max-six spaceships, but to the fleet ships.

Send a lone ship on a 5 star difficulty and don't let it return when damaged. They are supposed to be able to be destroyed. I'm not sure because I have never tried it. But others have reported that is is feasible.

Have you started the frigate tutorial quest?

There is a terminal on the bridge closest to the commander. Interact with it and inspect the fleet.

Then talk to the navigator.

Then build the command room.

Then come back and talk to the navigator again to send out the first mission.

When the frigate returns you'll get the BP for frigate fuel.

After that the tutorial os over.
