Galaxy Map acronyms meaning
Ok so I've yet to find an answer anywhere on this, so I'd figure asking.

What does it mean when you hover over a system and it says something like "G1pf" "K8p" or "E9f" next to LY distance?

The capital letter describes the color of the star's light - the Harvard spectral classification; the following letters describe what astronomers call the star's 'spectral peculiarities':
