And possibly you need to build both, first the geobays for short distance summoning, and for remote summoning, you need the generic summoning station...?
Regarding friends’s geobays — I have managed to call exocraft on the community event planets using stations built by strangers, so, I’d assume yes.
@Adarynin : on my main base, I built all four land exocrafts geobays but no summoning station (I found out that since it had been built in my base computer area, I couldn't use the X key to summon my exocrafts if they were not already on the very same planet, on their geobays or not).
On the second planet, I built only the summoning station and pressed X to summon the exocrafts. It worked like a charm only if not built after I put the base computer.
The bottom line is that if I build the summoning station before I put the base computer, it will work, but if I build the summoning station in the area of an already laid computer base, it will not.
So, I guess, I'll have to change my plans since I can't build the summoning stations on foundations :\
Regarding my friends, I do agree that my geobays let them summon their own exocrafts on our main base, but I was wondering if my summoning station would let them use the X key as I do, or if we should all build our own summoning station on planet #2 :)
---------------------------------------
@Gumsk : thanks a lot for verifying my theory :) I'll ask them to try two things :
- can they summon their own exocrafts with X key thanks to my summoning station on planet #2 ? (even if they don't even own geobays anywhere in the universe, since using mine on our main base)
- if not, can they build their own summoning station on planet #2 and still summon their exocrafts they use on our main base thanks to the geobays I built ?
My main concern, since we would like to have our summoning station(s) near our planet #2 base (to be able to locate it (them) easily) is : should I wait for my friend to put their own summoning station before I "lock" the area with a base computer, or can I be the only one to set a summoning station then put down a base computer and we're good to go :)
---------------------------------------
Anyway thanks a lot to both of you for your help, I really thought I would go crazy with these summoning stations / geobays / base computer drama ^^
The summoning station is weird in that they didn't use the 'Buildable' flags, but instead limited some associated action on the item or on the player. So you can place it wherever you want on the planet, but the associated action won't work if there is an associated base name in your save file. I'll try to do some testing later to make sure that is all correct.
- Summoning station: You can use it. I don't think your friends can.
- Summoning station then base: You can use it. I don't think your friends can.
- Base then summoning station: No one can use it.
Now for the why. In your save file, the game stores objects in one of two places: a base section (PersistentPlayerBases/#/Objects) or a generic section (BaseBuildingObjects). The summoning action in the X menu is looking for a SUMMON_GARAGE in BaseBuildingObjects that is in the same system; it's not checking PersistentPlayerBases. Bases can be uploaded, but generic sections can't, so I don't think other people can see items in your generic section. There are also a few details about how bases are shared in multiplayer, but I don't want to say too much about that, in case any burgeoning griefers read it.If you're even more curious, here's what the two entries look like:
PersistentPlayerBases
BaseBuildingObjects
The only differences appear to be GalacticAddress and RegionSeed. Theoretically, you could move a summoning station from PersistentPlayerBases to BaseBuildingObjects to make it start working. The Galactic Address you can get in plenty of places, but the Region Seed is only in the BaseBuildingObjects, so you would need to place a different item outside your base, save, check the save file for the RegionSeed on that object, then use that RegionSeed when you move the SUMMON_GARAGE from a base to the generic section. I may test this later just for fun.
EDIT: That did and didn't work. When I moved the data to BaseBuildingObjects, the summoning station disappeared, but it did start working. I just have to figure out where it is.
I recall that the save file editor had an option to swap another device with the base computer - now I see they did that to get the right values.
So to sum this up: build one of each geobay in one planet’s base, and then build summoning station on other planets outside a base?
