Game crashes on death

So I have three different computers, with three different processors, with three different GPU setups, and on all three the game crashes as soon as I die. Anyone figured out what's up with that?

ANSWER:

When you die, don't touch anything. Don't touch the mouse, don't touch the keyboard, and wait to respawn. Input causes the game to crash.

How this bug exists 5 years after launch absolutely boggles my brain but there you go.

sarcastic response would be to not die. I haven't died in so long I can't verify your problem. But since you are the first I've seen posting this issue I'd wager it's something in your game files or save file.

I'm assuming your using steam and have cloud sync turned on... Turn it off and see what happens. I've had it turned off for over two years now.

Same issue. Stops responding with desktop color in Windows PC gameplay when death occurs... after the cute saying. Lost progression, cute saying and the built-in startup delays makes this most frustrating.

This. It all points to a problem with your save, or maybe something in your inventory? Or maybe mods?

I had same thing happen to me. And I only died once in a 150+ hour save game from a plasma grenade and game crashed. Only time it has ever crashed.

It's strange, but a couple times I died I saw the game crash window pop up then disappear. The game kept kept on going without a problem.

As someone who has spent a life time troubleshooting bugs, I can safely say that based on the following information:

- Three separate people report same bug
- Tried on multiple different computers with different specs
- The very low chances we all have the same buggy mod (or in my case - I'm running none so we can actually just rule this out)
- The bug consistently presents on death

I would say it's not very likely our collective saves are the problem. Also, I'll throw in I can reproduce it by just starting a new game and killing myself and it happens.

Hehe.. I rarely die but 2 out of 3 deaths(all by right clicking out of the galactic vendor menu while still having grenade in my rotation) ended up at a black screen with the typical death message then crash at desktop.
Now rather then deal with testing and figuring out why this happened I just avoid dying so uninstalled the grenade launcher. Setting it to not be secondary seems to reset on startup so I just uninstall it. I dont wanna die a third time.. hehe..
I play survival.. id be piss now if I was played perma.. thrice.. lol

Not sure if my probleme is similar... I have lags after death in normal mod.
I have no lags during the game but when I die, after the white phrase on a black screen, when I reappear, my game becomes unplayable.
Sometimes I reload the backup and it solves the problem but not always ... Anyone have the same problem?

I have the same issue. If I die and don't press any buttons including mouse clicks, then after the death quote it puts me back in game at my ship and I can play. But if I press any buttons or click the mouse the game freezes and is completely unable to resume.

This freeze occurs consistently whenever I die and press buttons. I also have zero mods.

it happens to me if i press any button or key after death, if i leave everything alone it's a regular respawn. good bypass for those playing permadeath.

I experienced a crash and audio distortion after death. Closing all my browsers, voicemeeter (disabling my ASIO device), and VMs seemed to help. Could have been any of those things taking up too much CPU or hooking the sound devices weirdly somehow.

The game is plain unstable if this is an issue.

Happens to me, too. Playing on survival.

Last time i died was directly in front of my base, lost 35 minutes. Before i died in a settlement. The creature that killed me was two floors below, lawl. Lost around 20 min and a rare underwater creature i found.

Help with this ctd would be very appreciated, else i will resort to difficulty normal...

Lets see...no deaths? then clearly your not playing. I've died 2 times now, one because of this weekend mission where when you launch off the launch pad, you get stuck in a tree like plant and it destroys your ship. second? got killed by 3 invisible setinels not that they were invisible, just under the damn ground. Both of these could have been avoided if mechanics of the world were properly installed.

Both times, black screen, both times crashed. This is a recurring bug that is real. Devs need to address the issue.
