What to do with the billions?
Are we going to see a solution? More to the point are we going to be given something to do with all the billions of units we amass.? You can spend units on high priced freighters but that is no real use of the billions one can amass very quickly at mid game--if there be a mid-game. One can upgrade ships for hundreds of millions but, again, very limited use. One does not need units to build bases. So, I am talking about some real use for billions of units, as one makes these billions.
Bulid cities? Build space stations? Build unique looking ships and freighters?

More ideas, please.

Buy tons of expensive items and delete them.

Pretty easy to find C class ships you think are interesting and upgrade them fully. That should exhaust your credits. I was able to do it with just upgrading my Exotic.

With six ships and a very large selection of ship types you could change out every week if it is a problem.

Better possibility- get rid of the money making crap and just explore and enjoy the game.

DNA had a solution which the devs could implement fairly easily (as most of the code is already there) . Planet building, to mangle a good quote.

'Far back in the mists of ancient time, in the great and glorious days of the former Galactic Empire, life was wild, rich, and on the whole, tax-free. .... . But this was perfectly natural and nothing to be ashamed of, because no one was really poor - at least no one worth speaking of. And for these extremely rich merchants life eventually became rather dull and it seemed that none of the worlds they settled on was entirely satisfactory: either the climate wasn’t quite right in the later part of the afternoon, or the day was half an hour too long, or the sea was just the wrong shade of pink. And thus were created the conditions for a staggering new form of industry: custom-made luxury planet building. etc...

However As Ford states...

'Magrathea is a myth, a faery story! It's what parents tell their children about at night when they want them to grow up to become economists!'

So probably not.

Great idea--if not planet building--how about terraforming. Mu god, think of the different machines that would have to be built to manage terraforming. Think of the taking one of those weird planets, broken planets and terraforming into a paradise planet. Where sentinels were totally forbidden and terraformed out of existence. Then the attempt by the sentinels to get back on the planet as you terraformed it. Now, that is a battle scenario to work with. Hey, HG, great idea, here.

Give to the newbies at the Nexus on a first-come-first-serve basis. I do that with half the Fusion Accelerators and Stasis Devices that I make. Also any S-class modules I may stumble upon that I don't need.

Select the save in the game menu and hold the middle mouse button until the red circle is complete. Problem solved.

Before ship upgrades were possible, I just used the save editor to reduce my billions whenever the limit was approached - upgrading ships can take a fair bit of loot too.

I was passing out Apple Cake of Lost Souls and Chocolate Cake in the Nexus earlier. I've taken to filling my collection and finding all of the ingredients and edibles. Not really paying much attention to my bank rising to the limit. I'll find some neat stuff to do with it.

It cost about 2 billion to upgrade my S rank exotic ship to ~45 slots, i ran out of units so didnt get to 48. That's a good sink, especially since rather than keeping one of each type, you could just have 6 different exotic models.

That'll set you back about 15 billion, assuming you use units for all the upgrades.

As for new ideas, yeah. I think building an actual space station (hey, we could re-purpose those abandoned ones in red systems!) is probably the most logical thing.

Just make everything super expensive, since it's a super optional objective. Maybe we could summon it like the Nexus, but instead it's our own personal death star XD

Hell . I'm 11 hours in and just as clueless as the first hour .

No idea where this free ship is after a quest .

I went to where the guy was and got gang banged by sentinels . I suppose that ship is no more .

You'll keep getting the opportunity for a free one until you actually collect it, so dont worry.

Wouldn't they just work like freighters then?
