Thanks.
Noted, thanks.
I'm pretty close to the beginning. It wasn't a huge upgrade, but it was better than what I had, not counting repairs and re-building my upgrades.
I figured maybe I could have traded it in for something else that was a slight upgrade or something.
Overall, it's not the end of the world, but it's still frustrating and speaks to poor design.
You can also set them to quick slot keys using numbers.
If you're having a hard time finding good MT's, go check out No Man's Sky Coordinate Exchange on Reddit. I found my S class Alien and S class Experimental MTs using that.

Not when you're talking to an NPC or in the multi-tool comparison screen.
As I said, my issue is with receiving a free multi-tool from an NPC as a reward; by the time you find out about it, it's too late.
I tried backing away from the conversation without making a choice (choosing "leave" from the conversation options instead of "exchange" or "decline" in the multi-tool comparison screen), but that just auto-declines, basically; talking to the NPC again after switching my active multi-tool, he wasn't offering the reward anymore.
Unfortunately, that also doesn't work while in a conversation with an NPC.
A useful link, and not just for this. Thanks!
