How the No Man's Sky universe works. [Possible Spoilers?]
No Man's Sky is set in a procedural universe.

Within this universe are hundreds of unique procedural galaxies.

Within these unique galaxies are an extremely large number of star systems.

Within these star systems are then located your 18 quintillion planets.

When you turn on your game. No Man's Sky opens it's first page, and thrusts you into a galaxy. This is where you start. Then, you are placed in a random solar system located within this galaxy, on a planet located within the solar system.

This is what this looks like:

Universe > Galaxy > Solar System > Planet

When you are warping - you are not warping between galaxies - you are warping between solar systems. So when you are travelling to the center, you are travelling to the center of the galaxy you are in.

The confusion is due to a lack of firm education towards how the universe works.

Earth is located within the milky way galaxy, and we all know this, but we usually don't talk about our solar system. There are literally billions of solar systems within our milky way galaxy. All of the stars in our sky are potential solar systems.

This is just an FYI to those who can get confused on what No Man's Sky is doing.

Thanks.

Now how do black holes work in NMS? :-)

A black hole in No Man's Sky is like a worm hole.

A black hole in real life would consume and destroy anything near it.

Black holes bring you randomized numbers of jumps closer to the core. Though I never jumped further than 5k once. Most of the time just 1k (which would be 2 jumps for my ship).

They also sometimes destroy your technology, making them rather...inconvenient in the late game.

That's what those useless Exotics are for.... no upgrades in techs, so you can have fun travelling how you want, should it be BH or galaxy center. :steamhappy:
At least it's the only purpose of mine :steammocking:

In case you didn't know this, the name of our solar system is Sol.

I hate it when people mix up solar systems and galaxies. I don't know why but it makes me really angry >_>

No one has proven that..
Someone has to go to a black hole and either return saying it is false, or never return.. as they changed their identity and refused to go. :steamhappy:

While this is quite true - we can't just travel to a black hole. We have no way of doing so lol

And you must go very deep to see the good stuff.

BUT WAIT. I've always thought theres only one Solar System (ours, since Sol). And everything else are Star Systems.

A star system is a group of stars that orbit each other. This is also called a Stellar System.
