How to get teleport gate on freighter?

I saw a YT'er with a gate on their ship and I know it's not a build option for me. Do you have to continue the story to get or is it a legacy thing?

Never tried but maybe you need to create a base on the freighter ? No idea really

Yeah, can't do that either. I think I read somewhere you have to complete a quest line of some sort.

you can call freighter anyway, why need the teleporter?

might be a legacy thing. I placed a teleporter on my freighter as well. you can use it to teleport to your base but you can't teleport back to the freighter. i think the reason why is because the base computer is what you teleport to and there is no base computer on a freighter, and you can't place one. the game CTD's when you try.

I'm on an old save, and i can't place a gate to my freighter too. It's probably not possible, but it could be cool if we could have one to avoid flying from base to freighter everytime you need something.

You're right, didn't see that you can teleport item from freighter to storage and then take it from storage to inventory, nice tips !

That is absolutely incorrect. On a whim I placed a portal on my freighter, in the large storage room at the back. I don't have any mods installed, nor have I cheated in any way. I simply opened the menu for Permanent Technology, saw the portal icon, selected it, and placed it in my freighter. In fact I can place as many portals in my freighter as I want.

I don't know if there is a bug preventing some from having the portal icon in their Permanent Technologies menu, while others have it, or if certain parameters have to be met in order for this functionality to be enabled, but it certainly works for me.

The only downside is although I can teleport to the space stations I have visited, including my bases, from the portal on my freighter, I cannot teleport back to the portal on my freighter, making it a little less useful to me. I still use it, however, as it saves a lot of time getting to other locations from my freighter without forcing me to take the time to fly there.

If you have to edit TKGRAPHICSSETTINGS to have RemoveBaseBuildingRestrictions set to true, then you are CHEATING.
In Vanila you can't build teleport on Freighter. Try building Base Computer on Freighter and let's see how it works. How "not cheating" you are with a crash and relatively corrupted save file.
