The Joseph Anderson review - What was changed?
I'm sure most have seen it. How much of the game was updated? It's hard to trust all these Steam reviews when the review covered as much as it did and even one of the points alone can be pretty bad for a game.

Things like:
- monsters that attack you in safe areas but you can't fight back because you put your gun away in safe areas
- the terrible ending
- aliens who mysteriously always get there before you
- the graphics pop-in when flying so you can't explore quickly
- the resource collection gameplay loop
- the awkward challenges such as 'find 100% of things, including that one creature thats impossible to find'
- the letterbox fanfare that just stops you from playing for a few seconds (or even gets you killed)
- Atmospheric flight being clunky, sending you into space without warning or being unable to dogfight because you can't aim down.
- the myriad of visual glitches presented
- not being able to explore properly as you have to spend just as long walking back as you did exploring to get back to your ship

And so on. How much of that was fixed? It's easy to make a review positive and say they improved the game, but I need specifics if they're still charging as much as they are.

Well, all of those things you mentioned are still in the game (though I haven't seen the ending yet and I've never been shot "into space without warning" or been "unable to dogfight becasue you can't aim down").

Who is this Anderson guy?
What review?

A guy did a scathing 25 minute review of the release version of the game. It got nearly 1 million views.

All of these things I left listed have been addressed in one way or another. The visuals are greatly improved over the original release, and draw distance/pop-in is much better. The variety of things to do in quests, challenges and missions has made great strides from just scanning animals. letterbox fanfare can be disabled. the ship controls have been changed, and you can aim down.

Also, you can summon your ship from anywhere on a planet. The days of long walks back to the ship are gone, though I still kinda enjoy it.

OP, those type comments seem troll bait. It sounds like someone who wants to attack the game regardless.

Just one minor example... you never have to " spend just as long walking back as you did exploring to get back to your ship." That's either someone who is very new (hence should not be "throwing stones") or deliberately ignores the ability to "call your ship" in order to attack the game.

Best advice: Ignore haters and flamers. Watch recent videos of players who enjoy the game. Don't "ASSUME" a negative comment is fact and not slanted.

No software, hence no game, is perfect (without bugs). When software developers keep enhancing the game, like Hello Games has, each change can bring with it a few new bugs no matter how hard they try. They do an admirable job of squashing bugs while adding new features.

Flight is different now ... much improved and now very appropriate for this game esp flying at grd level. Combat flying, not so much, but this isn't a combat game.
The only way for you to really know is to watch current utube vids. There is too much to be typing about. Or buy the game and research it yourself.

OP, watch some more recent reviews. OR don't. If your going to fixate on a two year old review then forget it.

Like other very nicely put it sound as if this is troll bait.

If you want the WWII prop fighter Battle of Britain style combat, which you seem to get in most other space games (except EVE which uses a 2.5D bath-tub-rubber-ducky/submarine naval mechanic) you will be disappointed.

Back when the review was made, *liking* the game was troll bait. Either he's got a very deadpan approach to trolling, or it was valid criticism for a broken game 2 years ago.

He mentions the 'call your ship's feature as something you can do if you find a base, but that's not guaranteed.

What I'm wondering is was this addressed in today's version of the game?
