WTF? is the deal with Atlas passes
Ok, all BS aside. i have played for 45 hours.... doing missions and all, not just randomly running around. doing everything Polo asks, doing hte Atlas quests, way down the chain.

still not a single atlas pass V1, V2, V-nothing...

What am i missing, besides all those locked boxed and doors i have cussed at for 45 hours.....

seriously, whats the deal......

If it makes feel better, there is nothing important on either the doors or the containers.

I get the feeling Atlas Passes were ment to be something more, got side lined and may get something cool later.

With Atlas Pass v.2 and v3 three grant access to rooms with terminals which, much later in the game, reveal some deeper bits of lore. You need a particular artifact, aside from the Pass, to operate those terminals.

Way back in the day, Atlas Passes would sometimes give access to exosuit upgrades; before the Next update, you could only get them from drop pods or from rooms accessible only with Atlas Pass v.2 or v.3.

Atlas Pass v.1 always has and still does grant easy access to valuable resources.

For the OP, though, yeah, that is odd. Polo usually drops those, as you complete tasks for him. I've also gotten them from Operations Centers, though. Or was that from Manufacturing Facilities? One or the other.

Each time you talk to polo talk to polo a second time instead of leaving. That is how I got V1.

Polo gives atlas pass v1 I've got 2 of them now but I've also 590 hours in. I've got v2 and v4 from the mail. Still don't know what v4 is actually for but it looks nice in my wallet. 3 no idea but hoping at some point to get it.

They used to be tied to milestones, there was a wiki that listed which milestones were needed for what rewards from polo.

Im not sure if they still work this way.

I think I played about 120h to get all Atlas passes. As some peeps mentioned above, not realy anything to worry too much, nothing special to get with the passes. Sometimes Nav data or some materials....usual stuff you can get elsewhere

I think you want to bust into manufacturing facilities. I just got a V3 by breaking into one and solving the alert issue. You will learn a new "recipe" for something and the one I learned was for a V3 atlas pass which by the way gives you V1 and V2 automatically.

Always save the game before solving so you can go back and restore it if you guess wrong.

fgs 45 whole hours??? You can get all the atlas passes from Polo, after your third completed POLO mission he gives you atlas v1 for the tubes, they are the ONLY ones worth having. The other two give you access to plant rooms. For v2 you have to FIND and observatory to even use it, for v3 you use on space stations -- they aren't a big deal -- except for v1 and for goodness sake, ppl, please, just get them from polo. its so so sos os much easier than trying to find them out in the wilderness. I have almost 1500 hours -- wonder if my word is good ??????

Going in all sorts of buildings, making milestones and visiting the anomaly is the key for getting Atlas Passes.

Managed to get all atlas pass blueprints by using navigation chips to locate secured frequencies and raiding sentinels facilities (I was mainly doing it to try to get the blueprint for unstable plasma since the launcher is the only multi tool weapon I use).
First one I got was the V3 (couldnt craft it since it required ressources I didnt have access to yet), and I finally got the last one, the V1, at my second or third star system, way before I got my first freighter.
Once you have Atlas Pass 3 you don't need to carry Atlas Pass 2 etc. So you have more slots free. Atlas passes give you access to locked rooms. SPOLIERS NEXT:

Atlas Passes open barrels, crates and rooms in buildings and in spacestations. Locked rooms contain useful crates, batteries, Anti-matter, Nanites,Relics etc also access to language terminals and various resources like Deutrium, Mordite, salt, chlorine and others. These can be useful in repairing things like tech or possibly battle worn freighters and save time by avoiding a visit to a planet surface.

The passes also open access to mysterious rooms like the Planet simulation rooms or super computer rooms which may contain nanite terminals, words to learn or add to the games Atlas storyline. Though the latter rooms are not fully developed in the game yet and possibly may offer travel across galaxies. What they may do in the future is anyone's guess. Some terminals ask you for a Remembrance seed which you need to build and is part of the end storyline.

Some rooms seem to contain nothing of interest except plants and rocks. Except many people don't realise these can be scanned quickly and scan searched for resources. This can be helpful if you are short of a resource to give to an alien to complete a mission. Locked rooms in buildings can provide resources to keep you alive and get to safety, especially if you are playing Survival or Permadeath.

Johnny, how is any of that a spoiler?
Babbayega Dec 5, 2018 @ 7:27am
ok, i had been talking to polo regularly, uploading da ta, etc. no passes...

so, i read the replys above. i went back to the P screen and clicked his mission. left the screen. and the update said go into space and scan for the anomoly. so i did, and it poped into view in front of me. i talked to polo again, and actually got the v1 pass.

so the lesson here is not to just fly to the nearest anomoly nad talk to him, but actually scan for it and have it pop in. just flying to the visible anomoly doesnt seem to cause him to give the pass. Apparently...

so i see some issues with the design of hte process.

on a side note, i really seems silly to have soooooo many pass boxes laying around everywhere. i mean everywhere.. and the game developers not bothering ot so anything with the passes.

kind of disappointing..

You also get them quickly via manufacturing plants. I got a v1 and v3 within a couple hours of my survival game from visiting them.
