Finding a Portal
I can't seem to find a Portal. I know what to do, and how to find them. However, the cartography charts are sending me on a constant loop. I'm being sent to the same locations, over, and over, and over. I've gone through over 40 nav data, and am still empty-handed. My brother is having the exact same problem. Is this a known issue? On top of that, I'm finding half as many chances at nav data, and get nanites more than half the time. I'm loving the synthesis update, but this is close to pushing me to stop playing.

Sincerely, A concerned player

You get nav data at any manual save point at building sites.

However, you need to look for monoliths and then ask them for the portal location.

I never bother with portal much, in 4300 hours of game play I have come across 2 portals by chance. Others were when sent there on a mission and a couple were giving a relic at a monolith to show a location.

Like I said, I know how to find them. I'm doing everything right. My only problem is finding one. And the nav data is not as readily available. I'm doing all the right things, and looking in all the right spots. I'm just batting zero.

? All you gotta do (unless that changed with the latest update) is to locate a Monolith, solve the puzzle, interact with it again to ask for a portal location and then jump into you ship to fly towards the marked position...

Exactly. Unfortunately, it's not working. I find a monolith, solve the puzzle, and nothing. I've tried this on several saves, and nada. Oh well. I suppose I'll just have to wait for a fix. I've wasted WAY too much nav data on this bs.

Or, have you "unlocked" the usage of Portals in the storyline already? Kind of like an tutorial introduction by the game...

Not yet, but that was never an issue before.

And have you got any or all of the portal glyphs. If you have none, its understandable why you are not getting directions to one. NO glyphs, no portal activation at all.
I do have the glyphs, yes.

I found a portal before the main quest takes you to one. I was also able to request a portal location before ever getting close to that point in the main quest (and with no glyphs found either). So that shouldn't be the issue.

However, the location discovery system in this game can be very wonky at times. I've had nav maps and signal boosters sending me to previous locations in a loop plenty of times before. Some places they even send you to the very spot you're already standing in: seems to happen a lot to me with manufacturing facilities/comm towers -- but not much of a stretch to imagine this happening to you with portals/monoliths.

Have you tried going to other systems and requesting portals there? Trying a different planet in the same system might not help -- I've had nav maps send me to previously visited locations on another planet! If you have and it still sends you into a loop then it might be a bug. Consider reporting it to HG with your save file?

Are there still 4 types of nav data in game after update?

I watch a Youtube video and he was able to get all 4 types from the vendor. Perhaps you need a different type.

Other wise I have reasonable luck finding monoliths by just flying in a direction. They don't show of scan but they aren't hard to spot.

So far, I've tried 7 different systems, and I chose them randomly.

There are still 4 types of maps, yes. I purchased the proper ones.

There are no maps that tell you where a portal is, only monoliths. After you solve a monolith, you have to interact with it a second time and sacrifice one of the races artifacts (Korvex Mask, Gek Idol, Vy'keen effigy, etc...) That is how I find portals.

As I stated in my post, I know what to do. I have also found them by chance, but the normal means is not yielding any results. I cannot interact with any of the monoliths a second time.

Sounds like a nasty bug then. Sadly I'm not that surprised, given the amount of bugs and glitches I've ran into. If that happened to me I'd start a new save, and use an editor/cheat engine to give myself similar items/units/nanites from the bugged save so I don't lose too much progression, then test and see if I still can't request portals from monoliths. If the bug persists, it might be a bad install. Still worth reporting to HG I think.

I think my save just got bugged. A fresh start was needed, anyways.
