Ohhh I said it, right in the lions den too.

This game is lacking in serious depth and after reading todays update I kept scrolling and waiting for the good stuff, the big changes to some of this games larger issues. Of course that didn't happen. My review from August is still painfully accurate despite another "big" patch coming out.

they literally said this was dedicated to QOL, its not supposed to be a big patch, its community requests and tweaks to make the game overall less annoying to play.if you were expecting something huge or game changing, you obviously didn't read anything leading up to it

Sandbox is as deep as you make it.

That said, what depth are you looking for?

They aren't even good QOL changes! The whole UI was garbage from the ground up and they added a few minor things that do very little to improve it.

that wasn't your argument, and besides, as someone who's been playing since day one, most of this stuff is stuff the community has been wanting, no , BEGGING for for years. to finally get it is honestly great

This is hands down the best sandbox exploration game ever but it isn't the game for you.
Move along
PLUS based on your reviews i can tell that your taste of games is ♥♥♥♥ anyway

Update is amazing imo it changed so many stuff we didn't like and small things adds up also works other way around so it makes a big difference to me.

UI looks really good tbh you really haven't seen bad UI lol.

What are your ideas to add more depth to the game or as you say "good stuff"
it might look like people hating you but we just asking you to be less vague so maybe we can say u right

Your logic leads to the infinite content loop. "I reached the end, give me more."

Besides, games have cost $50+ for years now and the content has relatively exploded. You got 20 hours of enjoyment? You're getting twice the value of most AAA titles.

You probably get to the Ender Dragon in Minecraft and complain there's no content. Get to the Moon Lord in Terraria and cry about how expert mode just repeats the content on a harder difficulty.

Lion's den? Okay, you walk into a lion's den and complain about the lack of vegetarian options on the menu.

Ignoring some of the moronic comments. My review for the game pointed at the lack of reason to do anything. A game isn't good by throwing a bunch of ♥♥♥♥ at you and telling you to make the entertainment and it only does the devs favors by spouting nonsense like the game just isn't for me because then they can ignore fixing problems like this. Right now the game isn't even providing the tools for a "do anything you want in our massive universe"

Ultimately I wanted anything I do in this game to have a point or amount to anything. The building system doesn't have the depth or practicality to it like Minecraft or Terraria. Your space ship is all you really need for a home. It's to barebones and you really don't have much of a reason to bother with it. You can't get super creative enough with it to make anything special out of it like you can in Terraria.

Terraria you build things to house your various storage needs, crafting tables and to house the NPCs. It's also highly recommended for boss fights and the events to have a fortified location. You're given practical reasons to do it. I could definitely see more hostile planets requiring bases and a reason to keep your ship protected but right now the game doesn't even give you much of a reason to revisit planets anyway. Nor make anything really hostile.

Even the tutorial for building can't give you any real reason to bother with building a base, you're handed a freighter for free right away that you can summon anywhere instantly that will hold all your stuff for you.

I can't even build or customize my own ship/freighter/vehicles, just swap them out for different models and adhere to what the game offers. What fun is that?

So I thought fine, maybe I can turn on some RedLetterMedia on my other monitor and explore the different worlds and creatures. Except the worlds are all painfully computer generated feeling.

You never find anything unique, every planet has the same structures randomly scattered about, the flora/fauna system is poorly done. I shouldn't be seeing the same reptile looking creature from a lava world wandering around this tundra world. The game should have a deck of flora/fauna that make sense for the environment that it pulls from. Obviously things in a snowy environment would be furry creatures for example.

The AI is the biggest offender, all the AI does is just wander about aimlessly. They don't eat or sleep. They don't travel in packs. They don't hunt. They don't even have a nest.

I never at any point got the impression I was unwelcomed on a planet because the AI simply doesn't care, I would hope for landing on a planet where I am actually in any sort of danger constantly. I could have a reason to want a base and build some defenses. I remember a mission from Starcraft 2 where during the day the Zerg zombie things would stay underground or in structures but at night they'd swarm you, wouldn't it be cool to have similar events on some planets? Hell, how about natural disasters? Meteor strikes? Tornado? Intense blizzard? Solar flares? EMP like thing that takes out the power for all your stuff so you are briefly stranded. JUST ANYTHING AT ALL!

And oh my god, how are we not seeing populated worlds or worlds with cities and villages? Even spore did this stuff well. You could go to planets in a tribal stage to screw with them, you could interact with more modern civilizations and introduce them to space travel, you could go to planets and witness conflicts. Can we not even get so much as a sliver of something like this for NMS? Imagine going to a planet and doing quests that didn't involve you flying off to another solar system but were instead local to that planet.

The game has a sorta quest/job system but doesn't have all the occupations you'd expect and is as boring as actual work would be. Bounty Hunting seemed neat but a bug has been in the game for a long time and still hasn't been fixed where you can often not get paid for killing the bounties. Other professions are delivery which is a big yawn fest. I thought running a trade empire would be cool with the freighters but that's all completely hands off once you send them out and they lack real tactics.

Another thing I wanted was any element of danger, as bland as exploration is you can always count on danger to help keep you into the game and give you a sense of urgency. You can't even crash your spaceship, you clip through asteroids, pirates are not the least bit difficult to take down. Any sort of random events like maybe the engine on your ship breaks and you need to emergency land nearby on a hostile world, maybe your dinky ship gets caught in a tractor beam from an enemy capital ship and you have to either negotiate or fight your way out of the situation. Maybe you can encounter abandoned space stations in ruins that were infected with some crazy creature to hunt down.

This game needs actual stuff to do, I don't care at all if someone can draw enjoyment out of this. The solution isn't telling the negative reviewers that it isn't there game. The game could use more survival elements. Hunger/Thirst can create some scenarios from landing on planets without water, giving you a reason to set up a camp. Hunger for obvious stuff like needing to hunt. Or heck, the game having a real economy now that you actually need something.

What about diseases? All these alien worlds should have some health concerns. Right now your protective suit just protects against everything which is pretty barebones.

Dare I say, this game could use a similar thing to Fallout 4's settlement system. Imagine building and expanding your own towns with NPCs that have many needs to fulfill and problems to deal with. Now you have a reason to use the build system, revisit old planets and something to channel everything you do towards.

This game right now is just doing 1 thing over and over so you can save up to do that same thing over and over but faster. And it has potential to be something far better than that.

Needless to say you can see my frustration hopefully when these "big updates" they've been doing some to just ♥♥♥♥ around with pointless things instead of actually trying to expand the game meaningfully. A QOL dedicated update for No Mans Sky not having a UI overhaul means they don't want to bother doing anything beyond surface level.

+1 after seeing the length of the last comment OP wrote lol. I am sure so many people read it more than 2 sentence far in.

OP i think you expecting too much from this game.

I know Hello Games announced alot more features and depth in gameplay mechanics before launch, but is obvious now they aren't good enough to make it happen or they prefer to keep it a pure casual game.

They created a game enough good to make money and keep a good amount of players, a "casual sandbox for modern players" we can say.

The IA, the depths of things like economy, biomes differentiation, nation/races and various other things are enough depth for a casual game.

I think in this "category" this game is the best, and i not see the reason why Hello games need to go more depth in mechanics.

The only thing they need to do is add more contents, more things to do(on planet and space), but the depths of the game is better for them to be casual.

I wonder if they will ever improve the procedural planet tech... you know... the main reason why we bought this game. No reason to explore new planets after about 5 hours cause you will have seen it all after that.

Don't be too sure about that. I have about 2000 hours in the game right now. I came across a couple of exotic planets for the very first time after the Beyond update.
And I sometimes come across new stuff every once in a while. It's like the actual universe in a sense. Most planets are probably the same thing. Maybe one out of a thousand is completely different.

OP: If you're of legal age and in a state that's decriminalized marijuana I highly suggest you try it, then try NMS again.
