I am getting tired of sorting problems with this, tired of going backwards every other update ..
BUT on the plus side, it did load my last NMS save and ran the game - the very same one the 1060 crashed halfway through loading every damn time. win.
i found the AMD onscreen display to be a bit obtrusive so i'm still using Afterburner (which means i effectively have TWO apps controlling my fans. not sure who is overriding who, seeing as i gave them both similar curves)
Yea driver updates going wrong are an age old problem and often overlooked. Iv'e had people tell me just updating ontop of the old one is fine in this day and age until its caused crashes and full resets when its overwritten badly.
ALWAYS download the new, uninstall the old one, reboot, THEN install the new just to be sure its done properly IMO. Letting the control panel do it has caused issue for me in the recent past. I hate to say it but my guess is the 1060 in the OP is most probably fine.
Every time ive had a graphics card on its way out for me there has been tell tale signs like graphical glitches in multiple games. Yes it might be some rare case where there are no signs apart from a full crash. Never experienced anything like it myself though and just 1 game causing something like this is strange indeed which to me doesnt point to a card problem but software somewhere along the line be it the game itself or the driver.
Maybe its just full of dust and overheats?
What Motherboard and what CPU are you using?
After try many fix, I give up....never touch the game....until this Autumn with synthesis update I decided to login and check the game...suddenly I able to run it smooth so I crank up my graphic option on Med/High setting still can run without much issue....I has not update any driver or window files....and is now fiixed by itself...definitely is the game.
definitely not dust and (not sure if mentioned in this thread or another) when it ran NMS, it ran cooler than many other games like Watch Dogs II and Far Cry 5+New Dawn which were not crash prone, even though they ran up to 10 degrees hotter.
mobo is a sabertooth X79, cpu is an i7 4820k - yes, both are relatively old but a new mobo+cpu means a new OS too, which means Win10 which imo is a downgrade and just asking for more trouble - i'll try to keep Win7 running as long as i can
as far as the RX 590 goes, it is definitely better for NMS but has the 'black screen' issue (cue UEFI vs. Legacy BIOS debate) - it will start but it will not REstart unless i jab the reset button a few times.
as i was about to buy an RX 580 i noticed a cyber monday deal of the 590 for only $10 more - what i did NOT notice is that the 590 is HDMI + DP only whereas the 580 had DVI which is what my monitor is - so i'm using an HDMI to DVI cable which may or may not be part of the problem.
i need to look into it more and fudge some settings, do some tests, see what's what...
What kind of crashes are you getting anyway? My Vega 64 would randomly BSoD, and would fail POST half of the time, so I figured that the BSoDs were just a part of it failing. Got a 1650S and the POST issue was gone, but the BSoD was still there.
So I installed a new BIOS update, which caused more issues, then I reinstalled the last BIOS version that I had and I haven't bluescreened since.
NOW i am getting a black screen/failure to detect/no signal at monitor - randomly. i'd guess about 1 time in 4 it starts successfully; the other times i need to press the reset button until i see a successful POST on the monitor.
the fact that it works sometimes means there should be a way to make it work every time, i just need to figure out what. bios settings? better cable? maybe try my old 60Hz monitor? no idea yet.
Definitely never heard of an issue that bad either. The worst I had was when, playing War Thunder, I would not only disconnect but it would shut down my router altogether.
