Nexus Mods/Vortex question/help
Hey all, I haven't played NMS for a long time. I had played before with just a few mods like the one that lowers fuel needed for takeoffs and other little things. I used the Nexus Mod Manager to do that before.

I just reinstalled the game and started it up to see if it would draw me back in and it did. So I went to Nexus mods and found out that a new manager program is used, Vortex. So I installed it, and pulled a couple mods. Now I can't get NMS to start up. I get to the Hello Games screen, then the game just closes. I tried starting the game by disabling one mod at a time, and it still crashes. I disabled all mods, it still crashes. I uninstalled all mods, and it still crashes. I'm not sure what to do.

Just looking for help. I might've overlooked something.

List of mods I had installed:
-Reduced Lauch Cost 1.11
-RaYRoD's Flight Overhaul
-Jetpack OverHaul
-No Blinding Lights 1.0 for NEXT
-1.4 UPDATE FOR VISIONS
-Coastal Waters

Yeah, Vortex doesn't even seem to do Oldrim mods right. It does SkyrimSE fairly well, from what I am told. But your best bet is to install your mods manually, at least for NMS.

I would do a fresh install of the game, delete everything in your NMS folder after using the Steam delete, since old NMM left files all over the place in Oldrim, and possibly why NMS is mad at you.

- unsubscribe from and delete Workshop mods.
- deactivate and delete all Nexus and "other" mods from the game.
- delete Local Content via Steam by right clicking on game from Steam Library.
- exit Steam
- delete all files in Steam\Steamapps\Common\NMS folder.
- reinstall NMS from Steam by right clicking on the game icon in your Steam library.
- verify the game cache. ( its safe to ignore the "1 file..." message.)

*edit again* Glad you got that sorted, at least the vanilla game, always slowly mod your game, this is also true of Beth/PDX games (PDX- Paradox ie Stellaris/Crusader Kings 2)

Ok thanks, I will try that. I just went in and deleted the Mods folder and NMS started right up, which is a relief.

I cannot address exactly your situation but what you are experiencing is what happens to me when I have one or more Non-Updated mods in use.
NMS mods on Nexus are - IMO - few and many are not updated. (I think - think - 1.77 is still what mods are up to) Best to look at the "Posts" for each mod you may DL. The posts, in the tabbed display, inside each mod page.
Often you will find other players posting their problems with that mod. It's often hard to figure if a mod is updated. What I do is the basic way - try each one alone until I find where the "crasher" is. BTW, when logging, there should be a black screen with a red triangle that comes up after choosing the save you want. Reminds you you are running mods.
Others will no doubt fill in here or correct me.

I'm still using NMM mainly because I'm loathed to migrate 250+ Skyrim SE mods over to Vortex, as well as the fact that Vortex refuses to find my installation of Skyrim SE.

I'm used to NMM anyway, and it is really easy to manage NMS mods using it.

Coastal Waters isn't really needed since Visions included its own tweak. It doesn't cause NMS to not load though.

RayRoD's flight overhaul, however, has not been updated and currently does not work with the latest version of NMS.

Jetpack Overhaul is also not compatible - causes insta-death on load.

I had to stop using NMM because it wouldn't load any of my games. Even if I manually put in the .exe location. Now Vortex isn't seeing most of my games even though it says it supports them. In ESO Vortex said a few mods were installed, elevated, activated, etc etc and it still wouldn't load them in game. I've been out of gaming for ahile due to school and I wasn't prepared to have to spend a bit troubleshooting Nexus Mods stuff.

Thankfully NMS is working now though and I installed some mods manually.
