I would recommend just ignoring them, like the exocraft, if you want to have fun in the game. Both are fun for about 10 minutes...and at some point you say 'what is the point?". At least you can use exocraft for storage so not a total loss.
Unfortunately, it's becoming a standard for much of the stuff in the game that's been added more recently. AMU's, Exocraft, storage containers and even to some extent, Freighters as well.
Exocraft might have been more useful if they had a weapon that was actually more powerful than your multitool.
but it happened only once to me. every other deposit i touch is homogenous. maybe probe your node with terrain manipulator to see if it has a copper deposit embedded within? also do a scan (C key on PC) to see deposit's holographic mesh. you should see what its composed of in this way too.
