Frigate leveling
I have several frigates and one of them has a red dot in the 5th position preventing me from getting past B level. Does anyone know why that is? Also, how many frigates can you have?

30 frigates max. Move mouse pointer over red spot and I think you get info wrt the fault/damage?
In my experience, the red dot issue will eventually be resolved as he frigate levels up - it won't prevent levelling up but may slow it a bit.

The red dot means the frigate has a bad stat that is detrimental to any fleet it is in. As it goes on more expeditions it will eventually lose that bad stat and level as normal. Some info on how it works is in the following link

Red dot is disadvantage of the Frigate. U can remove these defect when u send this particular ship on missions. I had a lot of frigates with same drawback. Now they are S-class ships having the same advantages.

They rank up surprising fast once you can start sending 5 frigite missions. I did not keep track of the missions, but it was only a couple of months to get all the C class to S class. I only run two missions at a time, so you might be able to go faster if you are more willing to shlep for fuel.

I just found it boring and non-fun so now I only send out one mission when I get enough fuel just collecting while exploring. You can buy the stuff you need, but requires a special trip and some processing so not worth it to me. 2B credits so my real issue is avoiding topping out.

Yeah its hard to believe it was that long but I guess it must have been about that. All of my frigates are S now, I did however buy three S class frigates along the way and I think their presence may have helped things along too. I haven't had to fix a frigate since I added S class frigates into the missions.

I send out five missions a day, and it took just about two months of everyday missions for my mostly C class ships, with some B-class purchases, to level up to S class. The negative traits slowly get eliminated and eventually replaced with positive traits. Even after they're at S class, they continue to get bumps on their ratings for a few more weeks of daily missions, but they eventually stop getting upgrades.

I have a trade frigate that was S-rank from the begining and have perfect traits (it has only traits about trade). Sent it on several missions since I have it and the stats never changed nor the traits. I hope it wil stay like this because I dont think that trade frigate can be better than it is right now (unless there's better traits increasing trade, or replacing the weakest with a fuel/speed upgrade).

Though I have troubles leveling my industrial frigates.... for some reasons my Vykeen navigator never plan industrial/mining expeditions.... end up sending them on combat missions alongside a few combat frigates with explosive drones as buff.

Btw what decid the type of trait frigates get when leveling up ? Does the type of mission have an effect (like leveling up during a combat mission give a combat boosting trait, etc...) or is it just completely random ?

For fuel, visit a bunch of stations and note the ones that have tritium and dihydrogen gel.

Go get some every so often. Now that you can stack thousands, it's not really a problem.

You can "expand" dihydrogen all on its own with a refiner but it's slow; simpler to just go buy gel.
