Why is space red?

When the game was developed they said this is not supposed to look like space or represent our space but to be a fun idea of how HG wanted it to be.

It’s different colours in different systems depending on the colour of the large nebulous cloud the system happens to be in.

There is a mod that changes space to be black and has the option to keep nebulae or remove them.

Some areas are blue, other red, yellow, purple, and some almost black.
