S class baller hauler with wings???
So at this point I am starting to collect rare\nice looking examples of different ships, and I found this black cargo-pod hauler with shields/wings that spawns regularly at a certain space station. Normally, if you wait long enough a craft with round cargo pods will turn up as an S class, but after a few hours wasting time waiting for one to spawn, I am starting to doubt this one can. I vaguely remember hearing that S class haulers with cargo pods can't actually spawn with wings, but a quick Google immage search has shown me they most definitely can, but I have not found an example with exactly this type. So can this thing spawn as an S class or not? Have I just been really unlucky?

Got a similar one in my hauler fleet, with a different cockpit, red painting and the single square engine exhaust on the tail, but I couldnt get better than A class for it.
Had something similar happen with a fighter, it had the perfect look and painting I was looking for, but I couldnt find better than A class for it either.

I think of them as gas haulers!

I found an A48 class that has Perfect stats. S is nothing but decoration for the mind.

In the bigger haulers (27 slots is a medium), ball freighters with winglet side shields are relatively common.

Note the spawn rate of freighters depends on race of the system but spawning of S Class is dependant on system economy. In a poor system they could be extremely rare indeed.

I've spent days loading and unloading trying to get an S-class of that very same ship. Best i've done is my current A/48-8 baller with tail and no winglets. I'll settle for any S-class 48/8 at this point, except (brrrrrr!) that disgusting one with the long square nose like a tractor.

It depends what economy type the system that you are in is. If you are in a poor system they will never spawn as 'S-Class', if you are in an intermediate system they have a 1% chance, In a rich system they have a 2% chance.

You either have to get lucky or save scum for it.

If you want to save scum for it: Make sure the system is intermediate or rich, go to a trading outpost on a planet (NOT the Space Station, fewer ships turn up), make sure your own ship is not on one of the pads (land as close as possible and walk the rest) this frees up one extra pad for NPC ships to land on.

Stand around on the outpost (I usually jetpack on top) and watch the first wave of ships, scan them when they land to find out what they are, if yours does not turn up or it is not 'S-Class', reload the autosave. Rinse and repeat.

Just be aware that it could take many hours to turn up, but it WILL turn up eventually.

Use this list of economy types to check what your system is:

Make sure the Economy scanner is installed on your ship too. The Galaxy map will allow you to easily check what type a system is.

the time i spent finding out where large tier ships spawn it is extremely unlikely a S class will spawn in medium wealth the % is just to low (not there at all for low wealth). on top of that large tier ships is extremely unlikely to be there in that system in lower wealth.

thats not without saying that these ships and class can and will spawn in lower wealth. its called RNG. like your playing a dice rolling game.

If any of you like playing against Fate i would recommend sticking to high wealth only lol your hair will thank you.

Here's the part I'm fuzzy on. Do you look at just the first wave, or count ships till you've seen (for a Gek system) 7 different haulers land and they're starting to repeat? If the type/design you're looking for isn't one of them, then the system isn't going to spawn that type/design, so instead of reloading your save, go to another system and try again?

Yes - this one can spawn as S-class, but never as perfect (48+8). This Hauler is tier 2 and dosn't exist as the tier 3. Sphere shaped perfect S-class looks like:

or this

or without any wings.

So they can only spawn as a 48-8 S class with any other type of wings but those two? Unfortunate.

Edit: Oh, I see, it has the wrong hull type. *Doh!* In the meantime, I was able to get it to spawn S-class, but without perfect stats:

I am not sure 48 slot ball/pod haulers with large shields/wings exist. The most common one is the "mini shield" design, see link below:

The funky side shields seem more common on medium haulers:

S-class is only useful for the "Hyperdrive" spec. Hence S-class Explorer class ships are the most valuable in terms of game play.

This is because even with no upgrades, most pirate or ship battles are easily won because, if you haven't noticed, you can recharge your ship's shields manually during battles. Indefinitely. That means your damage isn't really important since even with the most basic ship you are essentially invulnerable if you have enough sodium to keep recharging your shields. NPC ships on the other hand don't recharge their shields during battle. That means the Damage and Shields specs are essentially useless fluff.

The only important spec is "Hyperdrive" range. Instead of 100 ly hops, you can, with full engine upgrades plus S-class "Hyperdrive" buff, go 3000+ ly in one go. Since each jump wastes about a minute of your life, that means by buffing up Hyperdrive you can save nearly 30 mins of your life per jump....assuming you have someplace to go in the first place.
