use your scanner. look for markers with a leaf icon inside. not all locations on a given planet have them. sometimes you need to take a walk or fly around. to check here and there.

Fly around the planet using 3rd person view, and look for groups of plants with glowing things.

Just landing somewhere and hoping you'll find some within scanning distance is a waste of time.

Walk or drive a bit. Get out and scan. Lather, rinse, repeat until you find a cluster. As said ab, got to use the scanner and look for diamond icon with leaf.

Also, make sure planet has gamma root. It will be listed in planet description.

If you played much earlier versions of NMS, gamma root used to be a tiny, hard-to-find flower; now it's a wacking great tree with very distinctive yellow flowers. Like other special resources (e.g. Star Bramble and the frost crystal plants), it's big enough to be spotted from the air, if you fly fairly near the ground in third-person view.
