Freighter fuel
I started a new game. Just got my free ship, built a command center in it, got a couple frigates, but no way to make fuel. Where do those blue prints come from?

After you build the command room, engage with E. (This gives you a little fuel and the blueprints) Go back to the Navigater and talk to him. You will regret sending out ONE frigate, don't send out a fleet until you have one. You need to have five ships. You don't grind tritium from freaking rocks for frigate fuel (you'd be doing it for ten hours a day to have enough) Buy Dy-hydrogen Jellie and Buy Tritium. Put the dihygroden jelly in the refiner to turn it into dyhydrogen. Store both in the freighter cargo. Mix them in the freighter cargo. When you do to send a freelt watch the number of stars the mission is - make sure that the fleet you send exceeds that number of stars - otherwise you'll be repairing frigates all day.

^This^

1 - Interact with the Fleet Management Terminal directly behind captain on bridge.

2 - Talk to Navigator - He tells you build the room

3 - Build the room - interact and get first fuel.

4 - Interact with Navigator again.

5 - send out first mission - get BP's on the return

Fuel is gathered in 2 ways, the 'grinding' way and the faster 'buying' way.

Go grind De-Hydrogen on planets, gather Tritium by shooting asteroids;

Much faster is: Note (with paper & pencil if necessary) which space stations and NPC's will sell Tritium and Hydrogen Jellies in big quantities. In a regular fashion go there (or teleport there) and buy them, return and stock them on your freighter.
For crafting Freighter Fuel you need to convert the Jellies into De-Hydrogen with your portable refiner, 5 of them yields 250 De-Hydrogen.
--------------------------------------------
Hydrogen Jellies > De-Hydrogen
--------------------------------------------

Note that De-Hydrogen is not sold anywhere.

You get the blue prints from the guy at the console standing below the captain's area.

De-Hydrogen can be obtained from Tritium in refiner (250 Tritium -> 50 De-Hydrogen).

Oh great, but you need Tritium for the freighter fuel... not very smart I would say. The jellies are more rewarding in the exchange, and easier to get. I have stocked 100s in my freighter rooms together with tritium, I seldom have to catch ressources.

Tritium is probably the easiest element to get. You just fly your ship through the astroid field and shoot.

And you call this easy :) It's damn slow, I never do this unless after new game start. NPC's sell 4000 of it at space stations, it's a question of seconds buying it. So stop shooting...

I get that you can buy it. Just saying for naturally gathering resources its the easiest. I mean with the basic start ship hit the thrusters and use the guns and you can fill up a few slots rather quick. The problem I see most people having is they want to drive all slow throw the astroids and shoot. Just put the throttle down and aim at what comes in front of you.

I ran a test over today to see how much one could make in a single game day using just the start ship. At the end of 7.5 hours I made 76 million had the 48 main slots and 4 back pack slots. The only harvesting you need to do in the game is mostly at the start to get your ship flying and get some seed money. Even posted how I went about doing it on here. In truth you could buy any freighter and have all your ships in s asingle day. The only hard part with a freighter would be the time taken to get the one you want. But the money to buy any of them can be earned in a day. Without farming just trading system to system.

The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

I built the room, when i engage the computer it says i have no missions to manage. When i talk to the navigator he offers missions, but i have no way to create the fuel. I deleted the room and rebuilt to no avail, maybe just buy another freighter and see if that triggers the fuel event.
Thanks for the effort to help though.

Delete the room, interact with the fleet Terminal right behind the Captain on the bridge.

I made that mistake like you did the first time. All I had to do was go to the terminal first. NOT THE ROOM. NOT THE GUY.
