How does this game run with only 8 ram?
Looking to get the game as a gift. The persons specs are

i7 3770
GTX 970
8 Ram

Will this run decently on medium settings?

Assuming 1080p and actual MEDIUM settings (not everything maxed with a few things wound back) it should be OK. The GTX 970 is roughly equivalent to the current 1060 which works fine, 8 Gb is tight but enough and an i7 has enough cores.

Hard to tell, there are more factors involved, some currently not fully figured out by the community that can cause problems on some people's systems. 8GB of RAM is fine, that is what I'm using, and I'm playing on ultra settings, although I have an i5 4590 and a GTX 1060 6GB, and your friend might not have as good of an experience with a 9xx series graphics card, especially depending on things like their VRAM. Plus, weather or not you are using an SSD makes a big difference for this game.

I suspect your friend will be fine on medium settings, but I can't be sure.

Im sure the system Im using is way below that and i have 1300 plus hours. if you read some of the stuff from my post about Minimun graphics card to do this I think youll be enlightened by the experts here, I know I was....

I'm running the game quite well on less then that on ultra settings
i5-4460
GTX 970
8GB RAM
But I do run the game from an 1TB SSD though, this thing has given me a lot of worth with loading times and performance in most games.

I was running NMS on:
AMD Phenom II X6 1090T black edition 3.2ghz 6 core
AMD Radeon HD5870 1gb
6gb ram
USB 3 flash drive ;)

On medium it worked between 20-60fps depending on where I was looking...

Now I'm on:
AMD Phenom II X6 1090T black edition 3.2ghz 6core
AMD RX580 8gb
12gb ram
1TB sata II hard drive (got other things on my flash drive - its read spead is faster than my hard drives...)

And it works nice at 60+fps most of the time on high.

I would speculate yes

It'll run but you will probably be stuck on medium to low settings. 8gb ram specs really need to be DDR4 to get the best from it, and the GPU is a tad low. I agree with everyone here that an SSD drive is the way to go on the loading times and lag spikes.

With 8 RAM maybe you get some Gek displayed, nothing more...:) With 8GB you have minimum specs which should be fine with a powerful processor which is more important and a card that supports OpenGL 4.5.

Game doesn't need anything more then 6GB of RAM, most important is GPU (at least GTX1050Ti).

Runs fine on my 970
Ultra/High

Actually, 8gb ram is best if its a good spec ram such as DDR4. I have freinds who run on that amount, one with the good ram and one without, same spec pcs, one just swapped out the ram module. The DDR4 machine runs markedly better than the DDR3 machine does (naturally) so ram does have some impact on performance. But most assuredly, the GPU and CPU are the most important, with a SSD for the loading times....

I'm running the game on a gtx 950 OK. Make sure you use the settings in the Nvidia panel.

Im running on a 6gb GTX 980Ti, the Nvidia settings are probably more important than the in-game ones. It runs just fine for me on that...
