Define a potato
I keep seeing people blaming bad performance on potato PCs .... at what point is a pc a potato and unable to run this game smoothly?

Im not saying that the game doesn't need optimization but the biggest issue with not just this game but all games, isn't 100% the game itself.

Quite often and more often then not.. its people going out and buying the latest and greatest of everything before there is sufficient driver support, or just support in general

Not only that.. to be perfectly honest PC stands for POTENTIALY COMPATIBLE
Not every component of your pc has been designed to run with every other part.
It may have been at the time.. but tomorrow is a new day with a new set of technology

Alot of people dont realise that they have buiilt a computer with parts that are not fully compatible with other parts.. be it a motherboard that doesn't like the type of gfx card.
Or an out dated bios that will run your SSD/PCIE card but not well unless it is updated.
Some parts just dont work well with others not matter what you do.

There is no such thing as a potatoe... there is just compatible and not.

There is plenty of compatibility documentation available when building a PC to ensure maximum success but even that documentation becomes obsolete as drivers and firmware are updates.
Most people just dont bother reading them or even looking for them.

So far so good!!!!

Hmmm....compatiblilty. It's all designed to work together......if you know what you are doing. Vehicles.....you can't take tractor parts and put them on an airplane....or can you.

A PC is a potato when it no longer performs to the users standards.... Or when one is reluctant to give their specs and complain about poor performance... Obvious potato user. We've all used potatos at one time or another. We may even have a few we still use.

A potato for gaming, but functions adequately for other purposes. If you own a potato...... good to see the old tech still hangin'. If it works for how you use it....great. If you are a gamer anything below 30fps on med settings would be considered potato country.

But in reality the potato term doesn't fit. Back in the 90's the geeks who played most of the PC games refered to old PCs as abaci. That term fit. Abaci/Abacus being a term the console crowd and the average gamer can't grasp too well, so it changed to something suited for that mentality. The term potato was born. Which should be a term to describe an obsolete battery, and not a PC. But it sounds good anyhoot.

for an intel CPU, a 4790k or better can do most things, but its on older architecture so you may run into issues with some titles. anything lower than that i see people post problems all the time. but if your on a decent range CPU that fits into a board that uses DDR4 ram and you got at least 16 gb of it, you should be golden, ram speed isnt a huge issue, but coming off DDR3 myself it can help with some of the issues the 4790k series has with some titles.

I still see i7s from the 2000 and 3000 series do very well in benchmarks so I think your threshold is too high. The demand for higher performance CPUs for gaming became stagnant quite a few years ago. My i7-3930k hasn't had any issues with games; I think I'm GPU limited in No Man's Sky so it's hard to tell what kind of performance I could get with it.

I am playing the game with my AMD FX-8350, which is a CPU from 2012. It runs alright, but the world generation tends to stress the CPU big time if I try to do sharp maneuvers with my ship within a planets atmosphere. You can see other specs of my PC on my profile.

or a games expectations.
There was a person in another thread recently claiming this game demands at least a GTX 1080, so if that's the kind of "expectations" on people's minds that's an awful lot of people playing the game with potatoes!

There are many issues to even with high end PC's, with that said the only issue i have is the bugs.

The issues most people are having aren't hardware related, they're bug related. I spent an hour banging my head against my sisters rig, which is a i5 with a 970, MORE than enough power to get 45-60fps on medium settings.

She was getting 8. Because it's a buggy ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ mess.

Just call them brussel sprouts or nazis or something else universally hated. I mean who hates french fries or hash browns?
Or sweet potato fries...no one sane hates sweet potato fries, right?
