What the Hell Is the point of the Gravitino Ball?

As far as I can tell, this thing exists purely to commit suicide, because the instant you pick this thing up in a ruin, the Sentinals will spawn out of nowhere and start attacking you and will NOT STOP. EVER! They will just keep attacking and attacking and attacking, even if I run, even if I drop the stupid thing, they will NOT STOP!.

Is this the game developers' way of just handing us a middle finger and telling us to like it? Is there some reward if you can escape with the ball? Is it even possible? Because trying to escape into space certainly doesn't work, with waves of Sentinel fighters stun-locking you to prevent you from pulsing or warping away.

i managed to escape with one of them by going into space and use my pulse engine between each wave when the sentinels do a scan. each time you get a little further. eventually i had 8 ships at same time chasing me. take them down and get to your base. enter inside and they wont be able to find you

Honestly I have never found this to be an issue.. I park my ship close.. and grab the balls.. then into the ship I go...

If you leave the atmosphere while being hunted.. they instantly find you and send ships.

If you just skirt away they will 'search' and that will be the end of it.. as soon as the timer runs out .. I go back if I want.

Same with the buildings with the guarded bolted doors.. I shoot the doors with my ship on a pass till I do not see any hit point numbers .. then I fly around till the timer runs out.. land .. and the building is mine for the taking.

Sticking around (even according to the lore) and fighting the sentinels seems to eventually be a death match.

My first death was because of a sentient plant. I had no idea 'sentinels' existed.. I cracked open the plant and grabbed the ball inside and boom.. I was like wtf.. and shorty died as this was my starter planet.

The gravitino balls are used in some technology blue prints. Without them you can not construct the parts needed to improve weaponry or engines etc. If you do not collect the dangerous plants in the wild you can farm them safely.

If you do enjoy the chase you can use the Minotaur Exo-suit to collect them I think. I haven't done that in a while, but they can be quite lucrative in the early stages of the game.

The value of grav balls has been nerfed considerably since the early days of the game. Once upon a time, having a grav ball farm in your (one and only) base was a sure money maker. Nowadays, they're nice and can be a fun way to trigger dancing with Sentinels if you're short on Walker Brains. Otherwise, pretty to look at but not so useful.

Bad prediction: Those are what they're going to make us use when they introduce the concept of creature capturing. Like Elder Scrolls' soul gems or Pokeballs.

If nothing else a deep cut tunnel with the terrain tool will hide you.
GB are not good money for the space used (compare, dig up purple+ items for > 500k/slot used or storm crystals are about that as well), unless you are very new into a game, and the sentinel attacks make them annoying.

GB are used in a few recipes, or used to be? I haven't looked in a while. You had to have 10 of them for something at one point, and it was important, but I forget what now! I think they changed those formulae though...

I also just use my terrain tool and dig far down, the sentinels won't be able to find you and you will be free after a few seconds.

Escape Sentinels or Pirates by simply breaking their line of sight for a short period of time. That can be achieved in many ways diggging, using ground cover or objects in space or running inside safe zones.

Also carry some defence chits with you to use in Space and install the Warp Drive Emergency Tech. Essential for Permadeath players.

You can also "grow" the gravitino balls from scratch if you are doing the farming side and know the blueprint (I think the farmer you can employ gives you the blueprint at some point when you do little missions for him). Easy moneymaker. They don't take long to grow either.

However I did discover one of the best moneymakers from farming but I'm not telling. lol ;)

Graventino balls are not worth it anymore I have never grown 4 of them on the freighter for possible quests I have never needed more.

Unless they changed things.. I just grabbed them.. hopped on my ship.. flew around till the countdown stopped and then left the atmosphere.. easy as pie.
