Do You Name Planets?
Do you bother to name planets/systems/animals etc.?

I still name every planet, but I'm not sure I'll keep doing it.

No i dont. I've had some problems with naming planets and stations teleporters still having the old original name so now i just leave the names to their original name.

Keeping track of 2 different names for every system was not optimal when using a teleporter.

Nope, i do not name anything.

Really? Is that new/recent? I came back for NEXT, but I thought when I played last year that I came across planets discovered by someone else. Is that not a thing anymore?

Only when it is a planet I want to go back to for whatever reason.

It is the servers are just tanking with the MP right now

I name the ones I live on/really liked or left an impression on me. Or just randomly for meme value.
I only bother if I find them interesting enough, or if they remind me of a famous sci-fi/fantasy world.

The feature is stil there, but the discovery servers are unreachable since shortly after the release.

Yeah mine says they are offline to, but uploading still works .I guess it just gets enabled after pressing E, uploads, and then gets disabled again.

I hope they upload/backload them, because I named a lot :/

I used to, but, nothing I visited or named before Next exists in my logs anymore. After the NEXT patch dropped, the only things showing in my discoveries tab, were about the last 8-10 systems I had visited, with all new planet names. I used to name planets, and add the element abbreviations after them, so I knew what systems had what at a quick glance. Now, except for a couple bubble planets, and me new base planet, I don't bother. It will all probably get trashed again by some future update.

Feels pointless because the planets already have a name when you first discover them... so why change it?
TruebornJester Aug 5, 2018 @ 2:17am
Not since i first played at launch. Maybe 20 ish planets and systems initially related to Red Dwarf. Then i couldnt be bothered being creative

Yes I name them all.
I name them based on what materials they have and then what solar system they are in.

For example the planet I am standing on right now is called "NaClFe+Cu Takewoo IV", I called my starting planet "SoCoPCu Takewoo I" etc.

Just really helps to see at a glance the resource information of a planet and if I ever need to get something, having the solar system name in the planet name helps with fast teleportation.
