Planets lost variety
First off all im not a troll or hater of the game, i played this game on and off since launch, and loved every single bit of it and still do.

The new update is great, the planetary rings, flteet system, new and improved graphics all of this are great, the only things for me personally that i was not excited about where base building and multiplayer, i bought this game for the exploration part, knowing that i can explore entire unknown alien planets with alien flora/fauna etc. for me was a dream come true, and this is where the problems come with this update.

I'm sure most of you noticed that planets look more "realistic/earth-like" now but this sadly sacrificed the variety and alien feel of planets.

The water/liquids now are blue on every planet. Before next there was green/red/purple/orange etc. water, where are they now ? They clearly sacrificed variety for realism. Same things with the sky, most of the time is blue, before next the sky had waaayyy much better color variation. Sure there are still green/orange and purple-ish skies, but that's about it. Realism at the sacrifice of variety.

Same with grass, before next there was more alien looking grass with a wide range of colors but now its looks to earth-like and its mostly green. You can still find red/orange/blue grass and that's its, clearly the variation isn't there anymore.

But for me the biggest one are the trees especially on lush worlds, they lost the most variety. Before next trees felt "samey" but different at the same time and more alien. Here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vcEA41eBOGs you can see the art director talking about alot of art stuff, the one important bit i like to talk is about trees. The engine will pick a tree trunk give it a color/shape/texture then it put branches, the type of leaf, color and that way trees felt more different and that's how they where and felt before next, but now i feel like im looking at 5-ish trees and leaves models copy pasted in the entire galaxy. The only difference is the color, and that are only green/red/orange and that's about it?

The same can be said about the terrain, sure it looks more "realistic" and beautiful but there are no more crazy rock formations, deep canyons and other crazy stuff. There are no more dangerous creatures anymore, on every planet that i land on that has creatures everytime is bountiful/abundant, before there where planets with flora and no fauna and the other way around.

This loss in variety can be seen by everyone that played this game since the beginning and i wonder why they choose to do this ? Yes the game looks better and more "realistic" now but it come at a great cost in variety and alien feel to planets.

Maybe its to soon to say this stuff, maybe stuff like this is much rarer now ? I really want to be proven wrong because i really like the game and want to see more unusual more alien and varied stuff especially lush panets.

TLDR?: planets lost variety and alien feel for "realism".

Totally agree, most of the fun of the game consisted in see what kind of combination the next planet could show, and was very interesting to see the results.
now every lush planet is green or orange. Hot planets? without even the grass they are just copies one of eachother.
I wonder who's so nerd in 2018 to still ask for ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ realism in a videogame. it is realstitc to cross a galaxy with your fighter? or those planets bumping on eachother? those things are ok but every lush planet must be green or orange, because is "realistic". Go ♥♥♥♥ yourself and stop thinking you are a scientist because you watch rick and morty or big bang theory. A scientist would want a funny game, not a realistic one.

True. Unfortunately they killed variation in this game. NEXT has like 25% of variation of 1.38 version. Animal AI is nerfed, planets have very few variations, caves and oceans are simplified. When you remove the paint job the game is rather hollow compared to previous versions.

This is a big issue because many players used to enjoy NMS primarily from a visual point of view.

NEXT has taken away a lot of the visual variety, especially in colours. 95% of the skies and clouds look the same. The Atlas Path version has more variety in this respect.

It’s like HG has gone out of it’s way to make the game less attractive.

I haven't seen anything like this before, in 4k+ hours of play, if you open your eyes, you may see.

i cant agree. Planets do look better than before. How many galaxies have you traveled?

just one example: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1465902187

Is this really the case?
I seem to think the game has more variety now than before.
Took me a little while to find a green grass blue sky planet.
The terrain generation is deffinetely better , all planets were pretty flat before.
Tbh honest I havent played too much of NEXT.
What are other ppl's thoughts on this?

Well the consensus on NMS Reddit, which is generally fanboy central, is we’ve lost planet variety.

Hmmm I think i'll go jumping from system to system and visit every planet to see how I find the variety.
My base building is bugged and can't get any glyphs for my stargate so I guess its something to do ingame , maybe i'll take some screenshots.

I think the main problems is with the color palette. I'm still visiting some planets with some crazy geological topology and caves. My main gripe is with toxic or radioactive planets with blue sky / water

Thats a bad example. Every Erased/Hex/Glass planet look the same.
... in my opinion it is good, that you have most of the time that normal planets and very seldom special planets , because than you are thrilled to visit the next system ...

BUT the problem is at the moment even on that stranger looking planets are somehow the same resources and animals . Some resources and animals should be exclusive for that special planets , so that you have an aim to search for them ...

I am now playing around 100h started with NEXT and found one special planet , but there have been the same resources and animal combinations , so it was WTF it doesn't matter that I have found that , even found one PARADISE planet , same story ...

so they have to develop new resources, animals to build that special planets with them,
that would inspire me to travel the galaxy, now after around 20 systems and 60 planets, I have already near all resources found , so starts to be boring and no need to see some other parts of the galaxy , that is the problem of all resource gathering games (strategy, RPG, space) ...

you never should distribute all resources everywhere,
so they need to develop new resources, animals etc. which are exclusive to some locations and typs of systems ... maybe you even would need special quests to find them

But at the moment you feel after 20 systems, you already have seen everything, even you haven't, but you already know all resources, techs and parts ... so who cares for visuals , if they aren't combined with something else !

SO long way to go for NMS, hope they will bring more tech, resources etc. for that special places into the game, even if they are ADDONs !

Bump. Please HG do something about this. There are alot of people who have noticed this loss in variety.

Why go from a very unique game where you can explore alien worlds to a generic base building game? This update nerfed variety and alien feel to planets way too hard. Now almost everything looks way too "realistic/earth-like". Things should look more alien and weird not "realistic".

1 hour into the game i was bored going to new planets.
100 hours into the game i dont want to look at another planet as you are right
Once you seen one - you seen them all
