scroll your mouse wheel all the way down for mining stuff up. it IS slower, but overall you'll get more out of the node and your charge will last longer as a result.
for comparison, i hit a copper node with the largest size and got about 100 copper, the smaller cutting size resulted on a node of similar size of about 220, and thats clean pickins on both.
otherwise all you can do is charge it only with magnetised ferrite, its far more efficient than using dust or pure.
and stay away from geology cannon for mining. it makes a massive dent but yields only 1 unit of material per grenade.
However I love the geology cannon for shananigans with friends.

BOOM! your dead go back to last save.
FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF
That's me. 7 times at a market terminal.
You can put an accuracy scope in the multitool to have a different option than just the grenade launcher. That give you something to change to using the middle mouse button other than the launcher.
It won't help if you forget to switch over thought :/
I think does benefit from tool upgrades.
Nice that it has a purpose now. Pre update it was rarely used.
I'm getting 4 charges, but yeah this is not my favorite thing. I want to explore a planet but it feels like there is a penaly for landing. I've just started the game and I am already comepletely sick of harvesting di-hydrogen. Does this continue forever?
The only use I've seen so far for Di-hydrogen is for launcher fuel. Harvest Di-hydrogen and make 20 launcher fuel charges. Then forget about Di-H until you're down to a couple of launcher fuel charges.
That is at least 80 launches from non-launch pad launches. You can also get ship upgrades to get more launches out of a single charge. I find this to be one of the better changes in Next.
