Weapons Research - Engage and destroy Sentinels Bugged (1st part) ????
Got a mission from the weapons specialist guy saying:
"Engage and Destroy Sentinels; Prepare for Battle..."
"Engage and destroy sentinels 0/8"

So I kill the sentinels that spawn, but the counter doesn't go up, it just stays at 0/8, and also once i've killed the two sentinels in the first wave, the mission instructions change from "Engage and destroy sentinels 0/8" to "Escape the sentinels" - "Leave the area or hide before reinforcements arrive" with like a 8 second countdown.

What ? does it want me two kill them or just kill some then hide or what...
I've tried just killing everything, numerous sentinels, dog walkers, and big walkers, but after each wave it just reverts to "Escape the sentinels" - "Leave the area or hide before reinforcements arrive" - So I tried killing them then hiding by going underground with the terrain manipulator, or just running away, or flying off in my ship... but nothing seems to be working.

Anyone else having this, and if so can it fixed ?

Dude... wtf. This was my particular problem. I don't know that I've seen that kinda requirement in modern gaming.

Yeah, there is still a lot of bugs in this guy I notice, too many to mention actually.

I can't get this mission complete myself. The drones also respawn inside my square rooms,
then I destroyed those, then they spawned underground underneath my base?
They are supposed to attack me, but can't get out?

I also destroyed about 13 small drones, but counter said 1/8 ?

My base is one very small island, then after destroying one wave of drones, they sent the
drone dog, then the walker, but I can't run very far on a small island. I tried using my
Colussus but my island is too small and I die. I tried using my Hover scooter but the mission
doesn't count the drones?

So I might try destroying the armor's desk thing.

Yeah, constantly running into this in NMS. Some NPC sends you off to do something (especially something with a quantity), you do that, come back without that quest active and it's like "Hey. Good to see you. Life treating you OK? Want some tea and crumpets?" Make the quest active and it completes just fine. Probably something that HG could smoothe out, but as long as you know about it, it's a simple fix.

That feel when problems with this quest have been reported literally a year ago, and it is still to broken for me to complete..

You can do all of this with a bolt caster with no upgrades and a personal shield with out running around. Take a spot on high ground and let them come to you. Kill the small sentinels first or they repair the larger sentinels.

This is super annoying I killed 30 sentinels, my mile stone went up but this stupid counter not going up ...

You need to kill them without hiding or going indoors or in your ship. Best way is to kill 2 at a time, then run until the threat disappears , then another 2 and so on till you kill 8 in one standing . Remember NO hiding in buildings or ships.

Well I just got a brand new exothingy and such a shame I cant benefit from it in this mission.

Also whats the difference between hiding and running both have the threat dissapearing. Anyways I'll try what you said thank you...

Run -put a little distance between you and the Sentinels to recover but not so much that it causes a reset.
Hide -NOT inside. Use cover wisely. Don't be out of site (EVER). Just tease them with a glimpse, enough to keep their attention.
I called in 3 ships for cover.
The personal shield works wonders! Keep it available with your weapon of choice (boltcaster is more than sufficient).
In between rounds, mine the drones for ammo, etc. You can transfer it out to a ship or if you somehow run low, transfer from the ship.
You can run this tactic early on and go through a few Walkers with little damage. Then when you tire or complete the mission, run it jump in a ship or the base.
Once I discovered how effective the shield is, I can go round after round mining Braaaaaaaiiiiinnnnssss!

Glad to see almost two years later that this is still an issue :/
It seems that if you so much as go into cover for a second, ie in a structure, ship or hole, the count resets to zero. reloading doesn't work, dying doesn't work.

You just have to fight guys, I kept this mission for when I had 6 S-Class protection and all S-Class weapon modules. Trying to hide or run may work or may not.

That mission just happens to be uncharacteristically hard compared to anything else in the game. It is not bugged, it just has some very tough conditions for success.

It has always been hard since introduction. I am not sure why the Devs just decided to leave it alone when they revamped everything to make the game a cakewalk. The first 10 minutes of the game and this particular mission are the only real challenges in the game currently.
