Distressed Signal - what's the point?

Hi everyone,

I've used Navigation Data items to look for distressed structures but once I get there they send me to another location with a distressed signal coming from a ball like machine (don't know the exact designation).

The problem is I don't get any reward or pop up message after finishing those. What are they suppose to give/drop?

A distress signal is either going to point you to a wrecked ship or freighter.

The ship you can claim and fly if you like it.

The freighter has loot buried in the ground around it.

So OP if only a ball as you describe and then nothing more it's a crashed site without a ship.
Some have ships some don't

Oh, than must be it. :/ Most of the ones I find have no ship there.

If the beacon holding the red ball says ITERATION something something something when you cursor over it then its not an actual crash site but a player starting site. It's a starting point for the Atlas Path quest but its not the only way to start it. They show up sometimes for me too. They used to show up a lot more as recently as last week.
