FOUND A FIX FOR THE SCIENTIST/OVERSEER 'LEAVE' BUG!
This fix will work for any of the base operations people that only tell you to leave them alone when in fact you have to do stuff for them.

u/xenuoziem on reddit. (post here: https://www.reddit.com/r/NoMansSkyTheGame/comments/94cl1h/found_a_fix_for_the_scientist_glitch/ )

1.) You need to download the no man's sky save editor

2.) open your save

3.) go to edit in the top right, and edit the raw JSON file

4.) scroll down until you see missions/discoveries

5.) there should be a long number list of all the missions. You need to find the ones that correspond with your base specialist, in my case it was scientist1 and scientist2 (missions)

6.) clinic the plus next to the mission number, click progress, and bump it down a few numbers, or put it to 0 to be safe, and restart the missions completely.

7.) save and exit

8.) here's where it gets weird. When you launch the game, and look at your missions log, you will have 2-3 'scientist' missions to complete. This is because we reset only the specific ones. You will need to complete ALL of the missions for whichever base specialist you reset. This means you will have to start them from the beginning, and re work all of the missions over twice, at the same time. It will be wierd, but once you catch up to where it got bugged, the specialist will continue to work normally under one mission, and your game is fixed.

I appreciated this post because although my problem was not described here or anywhere on any forum, I used the NMSS editor to fix it. To anyone who has a bugged quest you can use the NMSS editor to see the current quest name and then edit the raw JSON file and put progress to 0 to reset quest.

I don't understand why "there is more than one" is a problem. Surely you can see that there is one that was updated Aug 1, 2018?

Bigguyinthesky said that. For some reason, that post is gone. I don't know why.

You sir are a damn hero to me!

In my case it was "overseer1". I changed the number from 6 to 0. I was were i should have been because i could never get past step 1 in the quest.

I post the link of the save editor that you meant here because theres also another one out there.

II cant thank you enough. This tip saved roughly 35 hours of my gametime because in other post they just say that you have to start over again.

youre extremely welcome! i was very mad after not finding a fix, and i saw a reddit post about using the save editor to fix a starship glitch, so i dug around on the editor for about an hour and found out how to do this.

So I did this exactly as described and it didn't work =/. When I was redoing the scientists bulb and cobalt quest he would just keep repeatedly asking for more cobalt. I left the dialogue and tried doing the second mission with the transmission tower but it was still bugging when I brought back his core. This bug is so annoying!

this happens when youre done with the scientist.

you can only get circuit boards and a few other items as the highest. look it up to see what all you can get from him, and then if you have it all unlocked youre done with the scientist.

if all else fails, you can force unlock the things that are bugged with the save editor.
superban65 Aug 5, 2018 @ 12:19am
Yeah I don't think I'm done with him as it's only the 2nd mission he had. But my screen just now said he was "rebooting" in an hour so maybe it worked!
Sobaloda Aug 5, 2018 @ 2:00am
Sadly doesen´t work for me :/.. I got the bug literally on the first one possible. I hired my overseer, went back to base and tried to talk to him and nope. Just "leave". And the quest states that i only have to talk to him. Resetting the quest to 0 doesen´t work, i fear i have to delete my base so i can rebuild and maybe get it to work.

Edit: Just made another base with another terminal and when the overseer tped over he worked (y)

I am stuck also on the overseer quests, I never got my first quest. My overseer does not give me anything to do. Is there a fix for not getting the first overseer quest?
