Bought a new starship, lost all my gear
There should be a warning if your old starship is full of loot and you trade/buy a new one at which point all your loot vanishes.

We learn better from our mistakes.

Uh there is a warning, you just didn't see it lol Also if you can still access the ship it would still have the inventory, or if you get a freighter later the ship would appear there. Or just reload a save.

If he trades the old ship it becomes inactive, you can't open its inventory anymore.

Thanks guys, I would rather that a warning popped up saying "your Starship contains items, continue with trade and lose items?" Must be lots of noobs that lose all their saved stuff in the early stages of the game. I should have restored a save too, doh!

The gear in your ship inventory contributes to the amount you have to pay to trade your ship for theres.
for example if your ship is full of loot the trade will be cheaper.
I lost my stuff that way even knowing better; just not paying enough attention. Then in panic clicked E on new ship, entering it and upon exiting overwrote save and couldn’t reload to fix my error. Live and learn. I do kinda wish it didn’t overwrite your save every time you get out of your ship. I mean, auto saving there is as a good an option as any, but maybe 3 slots of auto save that rotate would be nice.

Is it not possible to transfer the items to the new ship before buying?

Sure it is, and you get told to do so.

you have usually 2 saves hard save and soft save.
exiting your ship is the soft one.
Hard save is if you use a saving point or one of those reclaimm area post

when you mess up to a point you regret... hit esc
and look at the 2 saves you can reload from that screen...
you should have 1 soft save & 1 hard save

It sometimes saved my Aaaaa

Most players make mistakes by just not LOOKING FFS

It tells you to transfer your cargo. And gives you the option of going back and interacting with your old ship before you take off in your new one. Once you take off, that old ship and it's contents are gone forever.

True. By my last hard save was quite a ways back (multiple hours) and it wasn’t worth it. As I said, live and learn.

It still would be nice to have a couple autosave slots rotating. It’s usually not an issue I have in games, but this one auto saves so often (getting out of starship is one of the most frequent activities you do in the game). Not game breaking, or even that big of a deal, just a casual wishlist type thing.

the warning was trading it in instead of buying as a new ship you can have 5 ;)

Honest question, as I’m not up to 4. Is there a good use for more than 2? 1 with biggest inventory for hauling and loading up while exploring and 1 for combat. Beyond that, I’m finding they are basically just awkward to access extra inventory space (go to ship, enter, transfer stuff, exit, go back to ship you want to move stuff to or to make primary, enter. . . Repeat until you’ve moved everything you wanted to move).
