Refused first free freighter

I was offered a 17 slots freighter, I refusd it, the next battle I find, will it also be free?

And, can I get some nice ones for free? is it RNG or always a bad one?

It's RNG, I got a 17 slotter and a friend got a 24 slotter. I cannot however confirm the second one will also be free.

Ok, now I am confuse.... If I refused the first Freighter, the next one I find will also be free or not?

If you refused, then next freighter will also be free (until you agree). Pretty cheaty, btw.

yes it's always free. you must pay first if you already have a freighter. so long you don't own one all freighters in the big space battlels are free and with a bit luck you will get a A Class or S Class for free. depends on how long you refuse the free freighter. as i said. i got a A Class Capital freighter for free. i mean the really BIG one

You only will get one freighter for free, so once you accept it the next ones are not free. But as long as you decline the next ones will also be offered for free. But RNG can be bad for you and the next rescue mission could take a long time to show up, the first one is scripted to happen.

Also the freighter you get to rescue is also RNG, so yes it could be a better one, but it could be a worse one as well.

I had a few attempts that failed thru bugs ( falling thru floor ect) but eventually got an A class 34 slot

Random I think, I got a 19 slot freighter (A class) first up. Honestley you may as well grab a freighter, they cost nothing to run and only require a Warp Cell to jump to another system (they use warp cells WAYYYY more efficiently than your ship so it's practically a win win)

Like I said I got lucky and got an A class freighter straight up, but 15 hours in and it's the only freighter battle i've seen so far and I've jumped to probably 6-8 systems so far

They cost a lot when upgrading, which is what I think the OP is concerned about. If you just jump on the first freighter and find it only has 14 slots, and then have your eyes set on a good 30+ freighter, you're looking at a bill of over 200 million units.

As others have stated; So long as you own no freighter, the freighter is free if you save it from the pirate attack. (Random freighters you land on will still come at a premium).

If it's a C or B class or less than 20 slots, I'd suggest declining until you find one that's worth the rescue.

Well, that's not entirely accurate. For reference, Permadeath game, started after NEXT.
I took the first random non-capital freighter that was offered, 16 slots, C class.

Then a few days later I ran into a really nice Star Destroyer battle. Largest size, A class, 34 slots. The Cost to upgrade was "just" 115 million. So not quite as expensive in previous versions of the game. I didn't abuse the whole cryo-pump thing before it got patched out, so it still set me back a little and I'm now back to tending my glass farm even as we speak, but well worth it.

So I had a B class freighter that I saved from pirates. Then, I ran into what looked like an S class - I saved it from pirates, captain said thanks, have my ship - but nothing happened. I just still had the B class when i looked in my inventory. There was no option to buy...

man, same, I accepted some ♥♥♥♥♥♥ 15 slot C class freighter, though I'd get more free ships thrown at me later, figured the first one you were offered was always crappy

I've reloaded my save just before the first freighter event a few times now. I have seen various classes of freighters but never one with more than 19 slots. I am still early into the game. Do the bigger better freighters appear later in game or should I keep on loading?

I wouldn't worry about getting the best right now. What you spend on it is used as trade in value on the next. So just buy something that works for you right now then save and hold out for an S class or something better you want.
