Thoroughly confused about the beginning storyline
Let me first say that I played NMS when it first launched, and made enough progress to have done some of the Atlas path (although I never finished it).

Now I decided to try NEXT. Well, I finished the tutorial, I think, and wound up in the anomaly.

What I don't understand is why there is now a quest in my Log called "The Atlas Path" - Search for Answers. It talks about my having found an atlas interface aboard a crimson station, and something about asking for seeds. And then under objectives it says "The universe is yours to explore. Enjoy the journey."

The problem is-- NONE of that happened. I have not been to any crimson station, I don't know what seeds are.

Sounds like a bug, but I don't know anymore. The wiki said something about Artemis, too, but I haven't heard nor seen anything about Artemis.

In fact, I haven't really seen anything much different about the game since I played it 2 years ago. Sure there are different recipes and a portable refiner and such, but I'm still finding myself wandering around really just mining stuff and crafting.

Where the hell is the story? Is there more to come? Or is it already bugged out?

If you are playing an old save, you may be opted out of the full storyline. I am playing an old save and have similar missions. I did play through so the story make sense to me.

You may have to start a new game if you want the full monty.

I'm sorry, I should have specified that. I am not playing my old save. I started all over again on a fresh game.

I just noticed that I had a manual save from a while back, so I am reloading that and seeing if it happens again.

Only the begining storyline? None of them made any sense to me. Just artsy fartsy nonsense. I was just pushing buttons and running errands so they would give me all the goodies to go play the way I wanted to.

I bought this game tonight, and I'm at the anomaly as well. There was a part earlier that has you go to a monolith looking thing and it asks you a few questions. One of them was are you friend or traveler? I chose traveler. Then it asks you if you are first or last. I chose first. Then it asks you if you've seen the crimson eye. I chose yes because I ran into a few abandoned buildings and they referenced crimson. One I came across gave me my first anti matter. So I chose yes.
Now at the anomaly the quest has me meet 30 aliens. Did that happen for you?

I made almost the same answers as you, except that I said the eye had seen me, but I hadn't seen it. One of the monoliths referenced a big eye staring at me, but I never saw it, so that answer seemed best. In the anomaly, no, I got not quest for 30 aliens. I think I probably had already met that many, though. All it did was have me immediately give data to Polo.

Then, when I left there, suddenly there was this odd quest in my log about seeds, and me having been to a crimson station and an atlas interface, none of which I have ever done.
The 3 main queslines (Artemis, Path of the Atlas and Nada and Polo) don't merge well together. It's like they are made to be progressed in a certain order, but since you can advance any of the 3 as you want, it will eventually f*** up.

In my new save, I had been to Polo and Nada like 20 times before progressing the Artemis story. So when Artemis's quest sent me there, Polo and Nada were talking to me like it was the first time we've met, again. And there were other f*** ups. The 3 lines should be merged into 1 fluid questline that bounces you between the 3 imo, so that it makes sense.

How do you even get the Artemis quest line? Does it just show up naturally after a while?
Artemis begins after you build your first Base computer.
ThreeDayBeard Aug 3, 2018 @ 12:26am
I've already done that. How do I tell if Artemis began or not?
The only quest line I have been given is called "Awakenings."

Is that Artemis? I thought it was Nada and Polo.

They both start from Awakenings.

Ok. So maybe I just haven't played enough yet to get to the Artemis part? I am worried that Atlas bug is going to happen again, or that I've already passed Artemis somehow.

Im under the impression, it doesnt matter at all what answers you give, ever. Talking to a NPC who does something irrelevant, you get 2 answers...doesnt matter what you choose. the result will be the same. I gave complete different answers to the monolith, and the result was exactly the same. its all just a kinde of timefiller.
ThreeDayBeard Aug 3, 2018 @ 12:42am
Well, I don't know for sure about the monolith and its questions three, but I know that for other NPCs it often does matter what you answer. If you choose the correct one, you get a reward of some kind, and if you choose the wrong one, nothing happens or possibly your standing with a faction could decrease.
"Im under the impression, it doesnt matter at all what answers you give, ever. "

Untrue, you can give wrong answers, ie at monolyths (it will shut down if wrong, reward you if good), and in certain NPC interactions.

The main story interactions however are just flavor text, so that you can't "Fail" them.
