ancient keys

So maybe a dumb question but is there any other use for these outside of opening the artifact crates? Each ancient ruin seems to have more keys than is needed to open the crate so I have extra just eating valuable inventory space. Just curious if I should ditch the extra ones or if they have some other purpose?

I have seen missions from the factions that sometimes requests them but that's all I've seen personally.

I keep 3-5 around, just in case of a very unfriendly planet just to open main chest and me not willing to recharge anything

The keys are for opening a larger chest at ruin sites. When you click on the chest 3 corvax cube images are shown and you click them to insert the keys. Inside are various items of varying value. Highest found for me was an ancient book that i sold for 1.3 million.

So don't throw them away ;-)

Yep, I tend to hang on to them. I am enjoying all the new digging mini games right now.

My initial impression of the game was outstanding, but keep finding these little treats that add to experience.

I have yet to find buried ruins that have more than exactly three keys available around the ruins, exactly what is required to open the single chest also found in them. That isn't likely a coincidence.

Yep, I keep the keys - only found three so far but unlocked a chest with a plant sample that reads like I might be able to farm it for 100K each - once I have the plans for the planters.

Unfortunately that is just an item to sell.

I made the flora containers and they are just a decoration that do nothing.

I was wondering about that. It almost looked like something you could grow but kind of figured it was just for selling. Glad to have more concrete info that doesn't make me regret selling mine. hah.

Has anyone found any very valuable ones? I have found two 176k and one 500k but that's all so far.

I sold one today that netted 1.6 million. The others were half that or less. In another thread I think someone claimed to have received a trinket worth more than 10 million.

Hydroponic Grow containers are the only bthing that will grow plants

I just unearthed the large chest that took 3 ancient keys and got a: Chest of Gek Cloth - worth 1.3 million U. However there were a total of 6 keys in the area. I don't know why there were that many...tried looking for a second large chest but found none.

every ruins i wnet to had more than 3 keys, i just stopped gathering them as they took up a precious inv slot, so far i havnt seen one with just 3 or under so im in the clear for now
