No Man's Sky And what is the point?
Ok, So I just got No Man's Sky a few weeks ago. So far I've been playing and I've just begining to wonder. What is the point to any of it. So far a few things I've noticed. You see one planet, you've seen them all. Not much differences other than some resources and hazards. Side missions, not much of a point other than nannites... Freighters and missions, what's the point, no good rewards. Talkng to NPC's just annoying, you talk to one, you've talked to them all. There is no story, not one that is interesting or even followable. So far what I've seemed to find is it's a simple building game with a bunch of duplicate star systems to "explore" and mine resources. Actually there isn't anything to really explore. And mining is kind of pointless, especially when you figure out the easiest way to get Units. You can farm 12-14mil units per 20 mins, probably faster if you wanted to. Once you max out your exo suit, there is no use for bigger ships. So you can pretty much get the best fighter for 2mil and destroy any enemy ship with ease. Hell even a C hauler destroys any enemy with ease... It's just starting to seem to me like there is a lot of stuff to do for no reason. Or maybe I'm missing the point or maybe it's just a work in progress. Or maybe it's just Easy Mode Elite Dangerous, except you can build... So if there is anything more fun than building a base and making 100 mil per hour please enlighten me. Because I like the game, but just not anything to do and I feel like exploring new systems is pointless. Don't ask about my unit farming method, it's pretty obvious but incase others haven't found it or it wasn't intended by the developers. I'd rather keep it on the down low. So I guess I'm asking, is there really a point to exploring more than the 80 systems you need for max warp milestone. Is there a point in doing in doing any missions? Or is this just simply a build and run around bored mining resourses that you'd be better off purchasing from the space stations, game? Not even sure why they added multiplayer, it's pointless.

All that exploring and you didn't find paragraphs!

I get you though. I haven't bought the game for the reasons you list and having experienced the same in other similar games. Once the sine wears off you realize there's nothing there.

You see one planet, you've seen them all.

The game is about exploration, curiosity, imagination... This statement right here tells me it's just not the game for you. Sorry, hope you refunded it before the time ran out, but either way feel free to move on with your life.

What is the point of posting a pointless thread stating the game is pointless when there is another much larger thread pointing out the pointlessness nature of the game and how its pointless?

I see your point, but how many hours of quality playtime until you get to that point?
SpanikopitaJones Aug 2, 2018 @ 9:15pm
The point is exploration, creation, base-building, mining, expansion, imagination.... it's very much a sandbox game like minecraft, if that isn't your type of game then it's pretty obvious that you wouldn't like this game.

I think some people didn't understand what I was asking. I was asking if there was any point to exploring other systems. If the story actually has a point. And if there was anything to do other than build a base, max your exo suit, get the best ship, and now sitting on a billion units I have nothing to do with other than buy resources I'll never need... Because it only took 53 hours to do all of that. Good thing you guys can read though.

So many ppl posting the same stuff over and over, this should be considered spam

@OP

the point of the game is that there is no point.

thats called a Sandbox.

do what you want, why you want were you want it... because you simply can do it.

nothing more, nothing less.

got me? good!

now do what you want... but don't ask what the point of a Sandbox is.. there is simply no point.

beside: just follow the Atlas Path and the Artemis Quest... both conclude into an answer to your Question.

Ok, well every other sandbox game has things to do to make them fun, like PVP and what not. But there isn't even that. The PVE is so easy you could do it blind. Perma death character is about the only way I thought I could make it fun, and after 53 hours I feel like it's impossible to even die.

Like any game the point is to have fun.

Even with the updates- it is really a niche game. Some of us love it, but a lot of folks be scratching their heads. It is mainly self-directed exploration. You make up your own game as you play.

MP will make it more fun because now we can explore or share discoveries and creations with each other more directly.

There is no end to the game, no final goal. Initially, we were all moving toward the center to jump to the next galaxy. Some folks decide to build a hub- so then you had a 2nd option. Some started testing other boundaries- what happens if you go to the outer edge? Can you jump out the freighter door? Do a dive to a planet? ... the list goes on.

No its a game for people with imaginations, it doesn't play for you, the game gives you set pieces, you make the content and play it.

Ok So either way. It sounds like you guys answered my question. Sounds like I've done everything there is to do in the game. At this point just build a cool base if I want.

Yeah you indeed totally miss the main point....

It's a chill game experience without goals...
And you do that... look for goals, look for reasons....

It's exactly what this game is supposed to be (and what many miss totally indeed) a game you play with no real reasons...
No stress, no meta, just put some great music, fire up the game, and go wander wherever, take hours to take your best screenshot, jump in 10 minutes just to pew pew a pirate, log out.

Units are not really a goal, how to neither

Freighters and their mission are to get elements to craft advanced manufacturing elements, such as the stasis device or the fusion ignitors, until you got all BP ti craft them... IF you want to, there is no need to do so, passive incomes If you want to, but you don't need to

Story and it's lore indeed don't do it either for me, but is nice to follow and understand some lore of the game

You can mine... or not....
you can farm or not
you can pew pew or not
you can explore and advance through galaxies or not...
you can mission or not
you can manufacture or not
Aim for a better freighter or not
More frigates ? or not ?
Min max or not ?
hang around hubs or the farther away from humanity as possible
Be a ressource hog or play as minimalist as possible

It's really that... the most freedom without a goal set BY THE GAME nor the devs. The most freedom without the game scaling up to try to kill you, so you could play hundreds of hours in your starter ship... it's a goal in itself to refrain for "bigger, bigger, more bigger and please do not forget better" many games forces down your throat.

So if you need a game to hold you hand to have a goal, indeed, NMS was NOT the right game, because it never was it's intent.
The intent was to give you a big sandbox that lets you create your own stories, let you choose how to play a game you paied for.

Really ED what does it offer more ? you simply grind for better bigger ships... I played it, I loved it... I don't see more goals... unless you get crazy into that "domination" story and areas like they introduced last time I played... the game is just as empty, with the devs just implementing reasons... because peeps are unable to set their own.
Thanks HG and NMS went away from that, at least for now

wow went south fast....
Nice OP... thanks for calling me mentally disabled....
so in less than 10 minutes we went from you asking a question to call peeps mentally disabled ?
Thanks... I really appreciate your behavior.... wow
Oh btw I played EvE online and went deep into manufacturing understanding, which not usually even 10% of the playing players don't even get..

It was just NOT MEANT to be that game.... it was NOT meant to be a challenging game
Now thanks go troll an other forum then...
