In 45 since NEXT I had 2 players join my game, although they quickly left after about 1 minute. I guess most people probably mainly play with friends rather than joining strangers games or they play solo.

And yeah you get a message that someone joined your game.

The game will tell you someone joining your game for sure. It pops up in the chat box. And Im not sure of any stranger joining your game. Only if they joined a random session, he might accidently join yours. Some dudes that I dont know joined my game couple of times actually. But this type of multiplayer is the best for coop with your friends.

I'm playing permadeath and something strange keeps happening. I get about 4 hours in and suddenly get a message "Angel has entered your game" then a few minutes later, "Angel has entered this star system" then I see their icon and they close in on my position (no matter what I'm, doing, mining, inside my base etc.) and they kill me with a few shots and there goes my progress. This has happened to me 3 times over the past 2 days of playing. Each time my progress is wiped (obviously because of permadeath mode) Any ideas as to if this is an actual player or something in the game? (it happens every time exactly the same almost as if it's scripted) My last game I actually turned off network sharing in the options and this still happened to me. (I double checked as Angel was closing on my position and networking was shut off and no other names in the network list except for mine) If this is a real player, how are they joining despite network switched off, and how are they finding my position so quickly? I'm new to the game so any help is appreciated.

I think only friends can join if you have network settings to off. It has to be someone on your friends list. It is an actual player. Keep netwrok settings off. They can only jump in if you have network on. And, you have to log into the game with it off..turing it off after in game will still allow a friend to enter.
