They should add a interact button before we can climb.
And also add a elivaitor too.:)
That said, they could tone down the 'gravity' of ladders. Instead of grabbing people that aren't looking at them, have it where the character has to be facing it and walking into it to invoke the climbing animation. No need to have some button blocking the way (the way our Lord Gabe intented), and making it flow more naturally. If I were doing it, I'd also put in a condition to grab the ladder if you walk off a ledge (with a ladder nearby) and fall further than a story. That way slip ups when doing some frigate repairs, or trips down a long ladder on your base, isn't deadly.
It's funny that in most games in which you can build structures, stairs and ladders tend to be problematic.
Let's say you've built a base that has 3 floors, and you've connected the floors with a ladder:
Climbing the ladder frorm the 1st floor to the 3rd is easy - but in my opinion, you're having a hard time trying to get to floor #2, it's an annoying jetpack-struggle to leave the ladder there, trying not to bump into it again.
(Hope that makes sense, English isn't my 1st language)
HL treats ladders almost as if they are another surface to can move over, going up or down based on which direction you are facing while 'walking' forward. You can also strafe side to side, which makes it easy to get off... sometimes almost too easy, resulting in moving right off the climbing surface.
I do appreciate NMS' climbing animation, but some camera angle changes for going up and down would be nice, and stealing a trick from some games, like Dark Souls, where you can slide down a ladder, would be nice as well. Heck, maybe even do a reverse and jet back up!
Yeah, there are way too many ladders on that tower, I think.
If you add six S-upgrades to your jetpack (3 in inventory slots, another 3 in tech slots), you can fly all the way up to the top tier with ease, though.
Well yes but the problem is all you have to do is be near a ladder and shazam.... You stuck to it just trying to walk by it.
That is annoying... But not game breaking.
Especially irritating when I try to access a plant or planter nearby.
Yeah, you can place ladders at the center of a room, so everytime you enter that room, you need to remember to avoid the center, or else the ladder will catch you. xD
