So what is the point to tech slots? when the stuff needs to be linked?
Topic, this is namely for exosuit/ships, where it seems most tech modules do nothing if they aren't linked, Which makes me ask, what is the point to the tech window? As putting tech modules in there seems almost pointless, as most of the stats seem to need to be linked to have any effect. Also where can you even find out what your stats are like for mining dmg per tick and such? I mean I know I can hit something but to make sure the module works at all before I leave the station.

I have yet to find anything that doesn't work in the Tech Slots that isn't just straight busted. I have all 3 of my life support upgrades and movement upgrades in tech and can sprint and jump around like mad and very rarely loss lifesupprt. All my warp drive techs are in my tech slot away from my hyperdrive just fine and work normally. Many upgrades use to need to be touching the main tech but haven't run in to the need for it lately. You get a minor bonus for connecting them still sure but it doesn't seem to be much really when compared to just having 3 S techs.

They do link in tech slots. In fact you can have a 3 linked chain in tech slots and the same 3 link chain also in the main inventory and get double the bonus. And mods in the tech slots do not take damage from black hole travel. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1462856384

I wasn't even aware of link requirements. Is that why the slots are so randonly placed when you buy a new ship, instead of just straight lines?

Have you got more than 3 modules there? or are the bottom left the modules?

Well I notice if I put the advanced mining beam in myt multitool, but its not linked to mining beam, it doesn't add the +11% mining speed. If its linked it adds some of it, from 80/tick to 84/tick, Mind you it should buff it to 88.

Those are all modules. The 3 movement mods are linked beause they are the same type. Same with the shields. The lower left 2 are combat shields and those mods only connect with themselves, presumably to keep one shield type bonus from combining with the other and resulting in absurd levels of protection. When you see the outline highlight appear it means mods are connected.

He has 8 in there, 3 enviro protection, 3 for jetpack, and then 2 for shields.

Like if i have to waste cargo slots to buff my spaceships gun damage that is just kinda stupid when there is a technology slot meant for that purpose. Test the adv mining beam thing, Save, then build it unlinked check mining dmg ticks, then reload and build it again but this time link it.

You will sacrifice some bonus if you don't connect mods to their main source component in the main inventory. But they can still get a bonus from connecting with each other. You can either use tech slots to open up inventory space or to apply an additional bonus.

Wait, so if I get three scanner upgrades, I need to put these next to each other to complement the effect? Or am I wrong? There seems no way to re-arrance bought upgrades so I'm stuck instead I disassemble these and rebuy??

The point here is you have to make decisions about what you are using your slots for. You can choose to carry more junk or you can choose to use those slots for upgrades. You don't get both. The tech slots are there to give you some flexibility, not to replace the need for placing upgrades in your main inventory.

It seems the modules aren't adding the proper values. This flora scanner says +1320%, The plant gives a base of 512, so that should be: 6758, However when linked its 4037, and unlinked 3824.

The entire thing with the different slot types is convoluted, messy and a part of why the UI sucks so much. If they want certain slots to have certain specialties, just make one big slot interface with some of them colored in to mark their specialty, like being for tech only or having more space. Oh, and then let us rearrange without using a save editor.

The bonus may be broke, but it also just might be that they are calculating the bonus differently than you are expecting.
