How is hacking handled now that multiplayer is available?
I'm genuinely wondering about this. When I finish a game, I and my friends like being able to just fire up cheatengine or something like it and play around for fun.
But now that this game has multiplayer, would that get us banned from the online mode? (or worst, getting our accounts VAC banned)

Or more like, how is multiplayer handled? Is it Hello Game's server(s) or are we hosting our own servers locally for "friends only" to join?
These are questions I need answers to before I even consider buying this. I really don't want to essentially throw my money out the window if I can't have my own fun with friends without consequences from the internet police.

No VAC on this game, and if you cheat, for the moment you cant get banned, i have use cheat engine on this game on solo or on multi, its very easy to cheat but the game was unstable and i crash frequently, so not very good idea to cheat, go play on creative :/
I thinks the games you play with friends is hosted by you or your friends, because you can kick out players out of your game.

You cannot be VAC banned in games that are not Steam server protected.

This game is Host only so they have no server detection's.

No need for anticheat really since this is non competitive. If you join a game with cheats you can simply use that save in another game since it ask you for your save game.

It's a very clever system and honestly the game will catch up to all Sean's lies eventually if the developers keep going like this.

The game need purpose more than anything, progression.

I see, thank you for answering. Good to know that it seems to be local host, though the no friends only option is a bit of a lack of foresight on their part.

Why would anyone hack? You can turn off network. And if someone kills you... you just die. Nothing happens as in you do not lose loot or anything. Not only that, but you will see a player enter your game a mile away.

If people give themselves everything, it will still not impact your game in any way. In the last 5 days I have had 1 person enter my game, and it was awesome as I have played solo for 2 years :)

I do not think using a trainer will get you banned. NMS is different. If you cheat it only affects you. Sure he can give himself tech modules and kill you. If you are on even level, ttk is very long. But he gains nothing from it. And you can just turn off network and turn it on at any time.

Or you can join a Galaxtic Alliance (there are many) and if someone griefs you, they have people standing on ready to send in the NMS police force to help you and hunt him down if he is still in the game.

Also remember that NMS has a great modding community with a lot of excellent mods. So I think banning anyone for modifying files is low.

If you go to Eissentam, you could always team up with me :)

Well technically, the modding community of GTA 5 is also quite active and coming up with some great mods. But using them online can get you the ban hammer. But that's the problem with publisher hosted servers. If this game's servers are hosted locally, but letting others be able to join through a server in the middle, that's good.

Mods are allowed and the game have a lot of gamebreaking bugs so you must use save editor when you want play smoother.

This both is normal a occasion for bann. So i dont like the banning idea. But i must say network is off in my games.

If I may, people killing you is very bad, especially in Survival and Permadeath modes. Items are broken when you Respawn in Survival. Permadeath, they just ruined your game forever.

People can give themselves very powerful Upgrades to their Suits and Ships and kill you instantly (people have had this happen already).

They really should have an Option/Settings for Multiplayer/Coop, since it is possible for these things to happen.

Well alright, I've gone ahead and just bought the game after "trying it" for an hour or two and liking what the game became since launch. Did get a bit worried by that message at the starts about "indecent" structures and our online access... If they can do that for those, I don't see why they couldn't do the same for hacks... But well, for now I guess I'll just play it and worst case I can always prevent the game from accessing the internet with my firewall if I want some solo fun. (It never asked for internet access in the "demo" I played, so I guess you need to reach a certain point to unlock the online mode)
