Extreme Survival Bug
I am at a point where I need to survive for 5 sols on an extreme planet and for the life of me I can not get the game to register time and advance the milestone thus blocking me from progressing with a part of the story.

I did a lot of research and followed advice ranging from the wiki to several other threads but none seem to work. I verififed that I am on an "extreme" planet as the text on landing is red for weather and it spams a warning that I am on one in the lower right corner. I have stayed for literally hours with no movement on the milestone. I have stayed out of my starship, caves, everything and I have created a manual save out in the middle of it all to quit out of the game and restart to see if it would jump start it, it did not. Does anyone have any ideas as to what to try (I have even tried other "extereme" planets all to no avail)? Is there a workaround of any means for people that are stuck like this? To be stuck on this stupid step is a big downer and I appreciate any and all replies from anyone out there willing to help a fellow traveller out.

if done this mission before 10 min. i found a planet with both extrem weather and sentinel. no problem with completing the quest. maybe it counts only with both since NEXT

I could only progress when i was on a planet with extreme sentinel condition, otherwise you could check out the save editor, others have bypassed the bug by editing the milestone progress.

As much as I hate the idea of this I may have to do that, any recommendations? I checked one and it seemed to not work.

If you die in the game (in any environment, not just on extreme planets) your counter will stop ticking. In order for it to start ticking again, you need to stay on an extreme planet for the same amount of time as your record before dying (e.g. if you have 4 sols, or 1 hour, you'll need to stay on an extreme planet for at least one hour again so it will start counting up).

just don't die...

Btw, mine is ticking, have been ticking in a fresh NEXT save (started the day of NEXT launch, so not using an older save if that makes a difference)

This is a ridiculous milestone as it resets its progress when you die, only to carry on when you get to what you previously got to... not to mention it is part of one of the main mission lines...

Where is the fun in literally needing to dig a hole and sit in it for hours just to get this milestone so you can progress in a story mission? It should be culmulative, even if you die in my opinion, or at the very least NOT part of a main story mission...

Not sure why you think the only thing you can do is dig a hole and sit in it. You can hunt, go to trading posts, mine, whatever. Get your resist upgrades powered up and make that planet your ♥♥♥♥♥!

Still quite new to the game so I'm not nearly at the point of needing such rare resources (at least the ones I found on the extreme planet I was on), so I want to carry on doing what I can manage at the time to progress if that makes sense. I'm also not sure which or where to get certain blueprints/upgrades right now for resistances. I literally ended up running around with hundreds of sodium to recharge my hazard protection at one point, collecting more on the way, and then decided to check how long 1 SOL actual is and couldn't get over it. Not my idea of fun right now in the game, heh.

My advice is to not work on that specific thing for a bit. Go to some other planets and do other things until you get your upgrades (can be bought at space stations for units) and are more powerful. The extreme planets are tons of fun once you are able to handle them. Better resources in many cases and honestly, just more interesting.

Hmm, problem I have is I like to complete missions as I go, and because this one is part of the "Space Anomaly" missions where you essentially can get a free blueprint/upgrade, I've been wanting to get it done. But as things are going now, I fear you may be right and I'll need to carry on with something else.

Cheers for the advice, still think the way the whole extreme survival milestone thing works is daft :P

No arguments about its daftness. You can do side quests without hurting the main quests at all in my experience. This game greatly rewards a chill attitude, the Atlas Pass keys will come, the hyperdrive blueprints will come, all in time, just play the game and let it unfold for you. Before you know it you will accidentally land on an extreme planet and find it fun instead of tedious.

I have now Rank8 in surviing in extreme conditions just because i build a base on a Lush Planet with extreme sentinels..

To my supprise extreme sentinels arent so extreme anymore, as its turns out to be a very VERY peacefull planet type now in NEXT so just doing there my base building things and get the occasional milestone for surviving extreme conditions.

Kinda dissapointed here with Next... Pre Next i found surviving on Extreme Sentinel planets much... MUCH harder (it wal still easy) but now its like there are no sentinels..
At least as long you dont pick any Gravitinoballs or Loot intelligent Plants and such, its prety much the most peacyfull type of planet you find in regards of sentinels.

On normal planets sentinels even come when you mine too much and get the red police shield icon. On extreme sentinels planets.. doesnt matter.. as long there are no sentinels are near.. you pretty much set..

But i did notice some (especially cold planets) with extreme weather are really extreme, last planet i visited was covered in blizzards that never ended, barely even able to walk there for 10sec before you protection starts to fail, and less that 100u visibility.

I'm pretty sure the "extreme" refers to the sentinel aggro not the weather. I know that sounds strange.

I started on an ice world survival mode and never gained pts in that achievement. The next world I went to was normal weather but aggro sentinels and I started gaining those achievements.
