Ways to extract Larval Cores?
So I encountered these Whispering Eggs which appear to do two things if you hit them with your mining laser:
- Give you an item called Larval Core (which sells for 90K units each and you can stack 5 of them in your backpack)
- Spawning a group of maniacal creatures which kill you in a 2-3 hits, they are fast and can also climb up slopes or elevation?! easily

These Whispering Eggs spawn in two different configurations:
- 1-2 individual eggs on dead planets
- Clusters (near abandoned bases!?!?!) (like 5 or more eggs next to each other)

The individual eggs can be extracted easily by using a Terrain Manipulator - Mining and just destroy the terrain below the egg, the egg is going to get destroyed and drop the Larval Core without The creatures spawn. (may be its a bug),

But you can't use the same method be utilised for eggs in clusters near abandon bases as the eggs are not destroyed and instead stay floating in air, making it even harder to collect the Larval Cores because they roll down. (Tried to use the same strategy to dig a ditch around the eggs and have a problem of the cores rolling down if I missed them)

I tried to destroy and collect two at a time from the clusters, but it takes a very long time for the creatures to de-spawn and it also involves risk of being hit by the creatures to death.

Then I got a bright idea, I dropped a base computer and build walls around the Whispering Egg clusters and then harvested the Larval Cores. The creatures (99% of the time) will spawn outside the walls and will not be able to hit you, while the Larval Cores which spawn don't go anywhere either.

So..have you fellow Travellers found other methods to extract the Larval Cores easily?

For abandoned structures that are long in shape, I grab an egg on one side and draw the creatures to me a bit aways from the base just to get them to bunch up together. Then, I jetpack over them and run back to the base and jet over the base' midpoint and onto the opposite side.

This typically has the effect of leaving the creatures wandering around the midpoint of the base while I just go egg to egg - no waiting for despawn needed. For me, the creatures only spawn to a max of 6 so I just make sure all 6 are on the other side.

90k. I thought they sold for far more than that before. Another thing they nerfed i see.

How exactly do you find these facilities? I've come across them by chance.

I was using the harvest two and jump on the roof method but it's sort of painful. That's a pretty clever idea to build walls. Maybe I'll try that.

I wonder if you could also use the terrain manipulator to create a mote or ditch around the eggs that the spawning mobs would fall into while you stay on the island in the center with the eggs to harvest them?

I tried making steep walls with the terrain manipulator; they instantly climbed over as if it was flat.

Just jump on top of the building or run inside and wait for them to despawn. Your ship/truck works as well.

If one or two try to hit you or you try to shoot them, they bug out after the despawn and stay there. So you kill one or two.

But most of the time it is, mine the egg thing, haul ass on top of the building, wait untill they go away.

If you kill them it takes just as long, as the ones you shoot get replaced by live ones instantly. No matter what you are waiting for the timer to end.

And don't try to hang around trying to pick it up. If you miss it in the first 3 seconds, haul ass to saftey as they will one shot you.

if you wanna cheat you can always use the save editor.

Who said anything about cheating. How about getting rewarded properly?
Just build a Signal Booster nearby, stay on the top and "mine" the eggs.
Recover the SB, repeat.

Sometimes one will keep moving through the SB and push you. Just kill it.

That is actually brilliant if you can get more than one egg at a time. Thanks

i do it the old fashioned way, lots of shootinf and terror.

what i do is i weaken several of them, the creatures dont spawn till you burst them completely.

theni quickly burst 2 or 3 at once, quickly grab the cores, and jetpack away ontop of the building, they cant get you on the building, or even standing on your ship.

they also spawn on the side of the abandoned building you blew up the eggs on, so after i grab the first 2 or 3, and jet away onto the building, i quickly jump down on the opposite side of the building and grab another 2 or 3 before they get around the building to get at me, then i jump back up again.

then i either wait for the swarm to subside, or i keep looking aroound the building to see when they arent near the clusters, so i can shoot an egg from the roof, swoop down and grab it fast.

once they've all around the building though, you better wait for them to leave, and then do it over again.

ive found as many as 60 eggs outside an abandoned building.

once you get the hang of it it doesnt take really long to gather them all. considering the payoff i dont mind the work or risk, and dont worry if you get hit now and then. better protection gear helps too.

even if possible, i dont want to cheese it to that degree by using base parts or the terrain manipulator, doesnt feel right.

I do that all the time and grab like 90% of the eggs of an Abandoned Building.
Sometimes an egg won't roll out. I guess it felt though th floor. Keep an eye for the glow, to know where it is.

i dont think larval cores even existed prior to next.

conmsidering i just made $4.5 million from the eggs from just one building, id say the rewards are plenty.

I suggest build all the walls first and then start extracting, because its easier when you don't have to build walls when creatures are running around.

This way you can extract all the Larval Cores without being interrupted one after the other, then jetpack jump to the next walled off section and repeat. (without having to wait for the creatures to subside / de-spawn)

I either just blast them with my Scatter Blaster or hop ontop of the abandoned building until the swarm subsides.

I mean, they have a huge head hitbox so getting headshot crits is pretty easy.
