Have you found a perfect Goldilocks planet?
As I have explored the NMS universe and established countless bases, the perfect Goldilocks planet eluded me for ages. Normally, if a planet has a tricky feature, I put a base there, no matter if it's toxic, radioactive or no atmosphere at all. However, I wanted a perfect world.

The game teases you most of the time. Paradise Planet, my a55. Yes, it looks fine, when the weather is good, but inevitably it's got boiling this, or scalding hot that when there's a storm. A comfotable 80 degrees F suddenly shoots up to over 200 degrees!

So, I was on a mission to find that B with an itch planet. Tenacity eventually paid off. Finally, I found the perfect world. During the day, it never goes over 85 degrees F and never lower than 66 degrees at night. The weather is described as, 'Beautiful'. This means no storms whatsoever. On top of that, the planet itself is beautiful to look at, with orange and red grass, 15 different species, all tame. The biggest critter is over 10 feet and I can feed him. So, it's all chilled. The landscape consists of small islands, with private secluded bays and elaborate cave systems, in and out of water.

So, I finally found my perfect world with the Goldilocks vibe and it only took just over 100 hours gameplay. >.< Has anyone been as or more lucky than I have? Or, are you still searching?

I'd have to rollback to pathfinder patch to find my perfect planet, so nope not going to happen until they completely rejig the world generation again.

Always searching and I'm at 15ish "Perfect Planets" with weather such as Blissful, Light Breeze, and so on. Sentinels described as Minimal, Passive, and so on. They are out there for sure. I am in Euclid and will probably stay here for another 500 hours exploring or unitl I get the itch to change.

These PP's as I call them should be rare and are always a joy to find even though they are somewhat rare in my expereince.

edit to add that looks can be deceiving more so since Abyss update. I've had several now that have the "Blue Marble" look, but are something else entirely.

Figured this won't be uncommon considering how long it took me to find mine.

Guess you're luckier. I normally go for the better star colour with the maximum amount of planets and still only found one that's perfect. I agree, they should be rare. It's made me appreciate mine all the more.

I actually have! I thought I had found that planet a few times already, but there were a few things on my check list for the PERFECT planet that were not complete.

That all changed when I just happened on this PERFECT LUSH Waterworld yesterday while completing a simple delivery mission. This system was right next door to several of my other home systems. I just never checked it out until now.

Every criteria has been met:

1) Dark Green "Grass" with Earth Like vegetation using realistic color palette... CHECK
2) Blue Sky and NO STORMS... CHECK and Double Check
3) Waterworld... CHECK
4) Abundant Flora & Fauna.. CHECK
5) All land creatures are Bouncies... CHECK! lol!
6) Most attractive underwater flora and fauna of the various types... CHECK
7) Ringed Planet BONUS! CHECK!

Thanks for sharing goldengoose7. Do you know, I never thought about rings and didn't miss having them until you mentioned it. No biggy. Nothing's 100% perfect. lol

Forgot to mention, my planet is not a Paradise Planet. It's an Overgrown Planet.

Might as well share some pics of my world. I flew around before and randomly landed in areas I haven't explored yet. This is what I love about this planet, no matter where you go there's a nice view.

Discovered this private beach enclosed with hills on each side and made a new base for a beach house.

My planet has no 'Bouncies'. This is the biggest creature, over 10 feet tall and will take food. They're a bit gimpy looking walking on hind legs, makes them look like they have what I call a 'mild Autumn IQ'. What's a mild Autumn IQ? Usually in the mid to high 50's. =P

These are the closest I'll get to majestic wildebeast roaming my plains.

I totally forgot I do have a predator, but it's a fish. To be honest, I rarely see it. The fact that it's a one eyed monster is kind of hilarious I thought. Surely they did that on purpose. It's got Freudian written all over it. lol

A base made to house a teleporter. I drilled the entrance through the huge rock. It really pops at night.

I prefer the deserts because they hardly if ever use your hazard protection (except in storms) and they are easy to get around, you can see for miles and miles and they don't kill my FPS with flowing grasses etc... The Red grass and orange grass planets are the absolute worst for me. :(

My home planet is perfect...no water features, but I am fine with that. They are more frequent in Eissentam. Have found several in my travels.

I think the real oceans are great. Maybe some are confusing the ponds/lakes/small water bodies for oceans? Things can alaways improve, but so far all updates are in a positive direction.

Eissentam, there are more of those then you can shake a stick at. Its really hard to NOT find one.
Trees, grass, mountains, plains, critters, oceans, chill sentinels, no storms...

I'm in the red galaxy I just kept hitting planet after planet with storms, rads, rabid sentinels. Found a nice world come across a valley with some small lakes. Same colors as @Byte Me first set of pictures. Started putting down my first real base. Got a lot down then it rained not long, but boiling. Pretty lake view when the weathers nice. I'm staying it doesn't rain long anyway.

Awesome. Like hearing about the search for these worlds, and knowing they can be found. It's what keeps a lot of players playing.

Thanks for all your posts, I'm pleased my OP has generated some mild discussion. It's perhaps best if I reply to all the recent posts in one comment.

@karenhamnik. My current PC is a beast and it enables me to play all my games on Ultra settings. Mind you, this is the first PC I've owned that's capable of high performance. Previously, I owned a Flintstones PC. The video card was a small pelicanasaurus chisling images on stone slabs. And, yes, it had the obligatory hamsterasaurus running on a wheel for a hard drive. No, it did not say, "It's a living." Not every appliance animal does you know. The Flintstones generated a misleading stereotype. lol My point is, I understand what it's like to have a pc like yours. =)

@Mr. Bufferlow & Xenomorph. Eissentam. It seems the universe is greener on the other side. It becons me, but I can't leave my old universe behind. I suppose I can save my old one and play it when I want. The only thing I hate more than ending is a new beginning. Moving universes has both! lol Guess I'm a creature of habit, but eventually I'll force myself, probably to break up the monotony or in the name of spontaneity.

@Sarah & puckhead. Yes, the phallus fish is brilliant. His details note it likes to strike from below. It doesn't mention if it strikes from behind as well. It is rare and not small at 2.9 meters. The first time I saw one I was playing the game wearing my Oculus. Using an app gives me the ability to enlarge the play window and curve it, making it fairly immmersive. Anyway, I turned in the water to see 2 giant phallus fish swimming towards me and they looked hungry. Since I was close to the shore, I escaped. Funny, I have a natural phobia of the ocean. It's surpising how that fear is reflected in a virtual environment. If a predator attacks me on land, I'm chilled. Once I am submerged, I lose my balls. lol

@Tongue in Cheek. Yes. I had the same frustrations. Everything about the planet appears perfect, apart from the storms. I know the only last a few minutes, but I'd rather do without them.

@2ugly. Glad to hear it. I agree. Generating certain topics keeps us playing. Enjoy!

Finally, speaking to goldengoose7 again after previously contributing in a thread of his made me realise one important factor that NMS has gained since Next. goldengoose7's thread was about Exotic ships and it brought home to me the lengths people go to for pixels. Like, some people are happy to spam their save on top of a trading post in the hope of an elusive rare ship. My kink is creative mode and until recently, finding the perfect world. So, I guess NMS gives us the choice to do your own thing, while I do mine. Ultimately, I think all good games should be as flexible.
japp_02 Nov 15, 2018 @ 1:15pm
The 'Goldilock zone' doesnt' apply to NMS, planets are not distributed in real distances around the sun, but rather constant and overly near to each other to enhance the visual effects over realism.
That said, there are plenty of 'lush' planets that corrispond to Earth conditions, but with storms that happen frequently with big temperature variations. Generally by observing planets from space you have a rough idea what you can expect to find.
