Aiding a Freighter SOS

Already have a freighter of my own but when I have saved other freighters from piracy, I donot purchase the freighter but the captain says they will join our fleet (under there control I presume).

However, when I go back to my freighter and checknothing new has been added.

Am I misunderstanding?

if you already have a freighter, you'll have to purchase the next freighter you save from the pirates, it does not come for free

Flavor text is all the same and is a bit miss leading if your not doing the quest for the first time.

You can dock inside the freighter you saved then you talk to the captain, you can inspect and buy that freighter if you want to.

The free freighter quest pops up on your 3rd or 4th jump. This is way to early to effectively get a nice free one. With NEXT I started a new Normal game and not knowing how the system works took the first free freighter I was given. This cost me all ends of grief with the Base Terminal quest and 133 million down the road when I finally did understand how to get a nice freighter.

Then I started a new survival game. Rejected the first free freighter and went about my quest getting things done. Last night about 30 hours into this save and just getting my Farmer mission going I decided it was time to start warping around and trigger this mission so I could finally get my free one. I'm happy with the end results.

And for the moment in 1.58 you are not adviced to take a freighter for free, because it's buggy and crashes in the Fleet managment are likely to occur. Unless a specific freighter is related to that bug. So watch out and backup your saves...

Just refuse all the refuse (hehehe, garbage), and only accept quality freighters.

Got my Free one last night in a save I started with 1.58... No issues with the fleet management and my first mission is currently underway and I'm waiting for it to complete.

Is your freighter one where you entered the system and joined a big battle? Or did you visit a random freighter in your system to get it?

And are you playing regular version 1.58? Thanks.

Jumped into a system and joined a big battle. That is currently the only way to get a FREE capital Freighter that I'm aware of.

Now here is where things may differ from me and others with the bug. After I accepted the freighter it started the quest to send your first mission. I did the fleet inspection from the console and then went to build the cmd room. I did not have enough gold and silver with me to make the room so I flew out to the space station and teleport to my Home Base. Retrieved the supplies from storage and teleport from my base to my home systems space station, flew outside then called my freighter to where it will be parked most of the time. Boarded, made the cmd room and then sent the mission using the mission npc.

I only play regular version, experimental introduces to many bugs for my taste.

Yeah, that's very helpful, thank you. I see it like this:
By flying to your homebase etc. you did save the game and your freighter is 'correctly' written in your savegame. Others going on immediately in the freighter with their actions may not be so lucky and got a screwed-up freighter in their saves :(
But that's all to check anyway.
