The rewards have been scaled up and expedition time runs even while you're not in the game so you can log off and just check back later. I got about 2 or 4 million credits (including selling off recovered items) from one mission the other day and it was a 2 or 3 star expedition.
That is a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ lot of fuel, how many ships did you launch?
Ya, I liked having my expeditions completing in a single play session. Also, if you get a bad list of expeditions that don't offer a variety of missions, you have frigates doing nothing.
I didn't launch it because I don't have the fuel now after sending 2 other expedtions which were about 400 fuel each. But 5 frigates, all but one being S class (with Support frigate) was 800 fuel. The amount of fuel you need to keep in freighter inventory to be able to do the expedtions daily is ridiculous.
To the others that want to criticize me for not liking this...I have a life, 2 kids. The more grindy they make the game, the less I want to play. I already have friends that like the game but they stopped playing because they dont want to spend their hours farming materials for this type of crap.
I sympathize with your situation. Maybe buying materials instead of farming them would make it easier for you? I've had no trouble making stacks of 200 ton Frigate Fuel by bulk purchasing what I can. The credits from expeditions and things I find on my explorations more than make up for the market costs.
100-200 fuel for expeditions was no big deal. Keeping a few thousand fuel in reserve would last a week or so of expeditions. You'd need to have between 2000 and 3000 fuel per day with these new missions.
For someone starting out with just half a dozen low level frigates though, this change is going to really bite.
Most of my fleet is S class, with a balanced selection of frigates. The expedition time and materials needed was fine before. The rewards were crap, which you could use a mod to improve. The fact that their expeditions system was (still is?) bugged and only giving 1 to 3 star missions with crap rewards for S class fleets was the problem. Increasing the time frame on expeditions from 4-15 times longer was a stupid thing to do.
Just makes me and I'm sure others want to use the save editor to grant myself fuel instead of trying to obtain it by playing. This is a game, not a job.
Either way, it's really a lot better now. You could only do a limited amount of Expeditions per day and their rewards were garbage. Now you do the same amount, they take longer but the rewards are far greater. You have to wait for them to recharge, so who cares if they take longer and fuel costs are higher? You can spend that time getting the Tritium and Di-Hydrogen back, or just go and buy it super cheap from the Galactic Trade Terminal.
Personally, I like the longer missions. My only concern is making sure that I don't lose a frigate due to it getting damaged and I'm not around to recall it. On the other hand, it's most likely to happen to the newer ones, which are not expensive to replace.
You fail to see the whole point...you shouldnt have to use mods or use the save game editor to make something take a reasonable amount of time. It's bad game design. As I said, this is a game, not a job. They are making this more and more like an grindy MMO when it isn't an MMO.
The best aspect of the game is the exploration. Constantly making the game more grindy to be able to do what you want to do, isnt fun.
I want to play the game, and I've already spent a couple hundred hours PLAYING the game and doing everythign I could to avoid the "grindy" aspects.
As for being grindy and taking hours, literally read my post again. The part where I said "go buy the items to make the fuel." It costs pennies. One animal scan will make the money it costs back and then some. Tritium is super cheap and so are Di-Hydrogen jellies that you can backwards refine for Di-Hydrogen.
