Did new Community Research quest now stuck in another galaxy??!!

I went through the portal, did the digging, returned through the portal and find myself in another galaxy!

I have no base here and no way to return to my home galaxy (apart from maybe going to the centre of this galaxy and hoping to hop to my home galaxy).

Oh, so the "go to the marked planet" is the "portal" planet that appears in every system? I had no clue, i figured the portals were appearing as part of something else. It just isnt made clear what it is you're supposed to do.

I'm on experimental and havent been stuck yet, but i do back up my saves whenever this kind of thing happens as i know HG are effing useless with their testing.

So, let me get this straight..we go through the portals to fly around on THAT planet for the hex things or some other planet in that system? Nothing is clear to me...

I was in Hyades, now I'm in Eucilid or whatever it's called. I am effen furious. 1900 hours of game time to end up back at the start.

Who do I kick in the ass for this foul up?

I think how it is supposed to work is:

You go through the portal and come out in a restricted little galaxy with one star system. You can't warp, make a base or use teleporters.

Find buried caches with the visor scanner to collect 25 red ball thingies.

Turn these in at the anomaly station to Pol.

A new door behind Pol becomes available with an NPC selling cosmetic items in exchange for your newly-acquired Quicksilver.

Go back to the planet and through the portal. You should be back in your own galaxy (but may not and this looks like its a bug).

You can now continue to dig for more red balls in your own galaxy and turn them in at the anomaly station for more pretties.

I can confirm that using the NMS Save Editor to switch back to your original galaxy works. My base was there with all my stuff and everything seems OK again.

Damned shame you need a 3rd-party mod/hack to fix the game.

I ended up with 4 red balls, no idea how i got them or where. Now when i dig anywhere all I get is tech things like before, no more red balls, but of course nothing to spend them on as i appear to have unlocked everything.

So collect the red balls AFTER going through the portal?

At first I could not take the port back, so I tried all the other things. Came back a few hours later, tried again for the halibut... and the portal worked.

Was stuck being shot back to my point of origin till i went to steam offline mode, so that works. Finished it all, bought some crap, now waiting for the next community thing. That will simply delete your save or something.

This just happened to me. I'm new to the game, so I don't even know what system I came from. I've tried re-loading like 20 times and the portal has never opened for me. The portal control stone is stuck in the ground too so I don't know what to do. I'm stuck here :(

Glad to find this thread! Thought I was alone. Went from raging galaxy #15 to #1, on Xbox. No pc fix tricks for me. :( super disheartened to play anymore. I spent a lot of time to get to where I was at. Grrrrr

I had this issue but then went to 'Network & Voice' > 'Network Play' and changed this to off. I then restarted and was able to go back through the portal without crashing.

(You can also edit this setting directly via the game config files if you cannot switch this off via the UI).
