You will lose any stuff you've built on your old freighter and whatever is in the inventory but that's probably a small price to pay to get a class S with 34 slots and you can rebuild pretty easy.
If you swap freighters after a battle, you don't get the option to transfer one freighters inventory to the other, but if you just board a random freighter, you do get the same compare screen that you would when looking at starships and can move your cargo.
You do still get the option to look at the specs for a new freighter after a battle and can buy it or decline it.
Thanks for the help Bubba Fett!
I do. I can call my freighter to any system and get access to it's larger inventory, storage containers, and large refiners. I can sell stuff from my freighter using it's trade terminals. I can also switch to other ships in my collection.
I can do farming there, and access most of my base specialists other than the exocraft guy.
My freighter is outfitted better than most of my bases and the only things I've got at my ground bases that the freighter doesn't have is atmosphere harvesters, and a save point. (and the ability to teleport into the base)
i just miss a Captains Cabin to feel more home on it *g*
So install a captains cabin. You can install decorations in a freighter and you can add rooms to it.
My freighter's got a captains office a little ways from the bridge. There's a desk with consoles and a few chairs for meetings, a couple of couches and a holo table for informal chats, assorted decals on the wall, and a hallway leading to another fleet command room where the captain sleeps.
I've also got a bunch of dorm style rooms for the crew's quarters with their own common area for recreation.
They don't really serve a purpose, but they make the ship look more impressive and homey.
