water on a "scorched planet"?
so im doing this weeks event and i need to take a picture of an underwater creature on a scorched planet... wtf....
last i checked a scorched planet was scorched because it had NO water to sustain it, so is this an oversight on their part or is there actually scorched planets WITh water on it but just extremely ultra rare

There are scorched planets with water. Scorched just means really hot. Doesn't mean it's dry.
Both toxic and scorched come in wet and dry forms :)
i knew toxic did, ive swam in those waters before lol, but i have yet to come across a scorched planet with water... guess ill keep looking
Look for a planet with solarium and water. Scorched for the quest just cares if it's a solarium planet.
if a planet is dry then maybe it's water is dry too? you know like a dry ice ;)

just trolling a bit ofc :) sorry...
Have been in 40 diffrent systems looking for a scorched planet with water... anyone know any portal addresses?

It shouldn't take that long to find. I have some suggestions that might help though, even though I didn't record any portal addresses, I did complete it all and get all the extra quicksilver (although it took longer than most polo/nada quests).

When warping, look at the system details, it'll tell you if they have planets with water or not. You can also look for systems with less planets to check on by looking at the planetary ring designs on the galaxy map of the selected system, so you can more quickly scan all the planets in the system and have higher odds of any that you do scan being the one with water. Then scan the planets checking which ones have solarium, those are the ones that count as 'scorched' for the quest.

The planet doesn't have to have a ton of water, so you should even check ones that you can't see blue from away from t he planet, so long as the are solarium ones. Even ones with relatively small dotted bits of lakes can potentially have water life that counts for the quest, that is how I got one of my photos that counted, and it couldn't be seen until I was past the clouds, so you should check solarium planets by diving into the atmopshere a bit even if you can't see water from above, especially if you haven't spotted another planet with water yet and don't have many planets in the system.

It shouldn't take much more than 10 water systems to find one with a water solarium planet, by my guess, and you can keep a record of ones with other types of water planets for visiting later since the quest wants you to find lots of different types (toxic, cold, tropical, and radioactive besides the hot stuff). I wasn't told to visit any that involved the cactus stuff, but the planets I did have to find were water ones that contained when scanning the planets environments for frost crystals, fungal mould, gamma root, solanium, and star bulbs. So even if you aren't finding the one you are currently looking for, keep a record of the water worlds you do find so that you can go back quickly to the right ones, especially since there will be repeats for some (I'm not sure if it's random or a specific pattern).

Happy hunting!
@divine aurora thank you for the helpful info, however there is one discrepancy in the info, i was on a "hot" planet that had solarium and water but the fish did not count, so im thinking it must be a hotter planet then the one i was one, i cant remember which planet it was but it was not a "hazard" planet it was just desert like that had solarium

edit:it appears i was mistaken, planet didnt have solarium, had cactus instead, so i thought it was in that catagory

I have made the same mistakes early in my play cycle.

Typically people assume that arid (desert) and scorched (hot) is the same kind of biome. It would make sense on Earth, since the two conditions are usually found in the same biome.

But in NMS, they are two distinct and separate planet biome types.

A "Scorched" biome is always identified as having Solarium on the top of its natural resource list, and a Scorched planet may have bodies of water. There is enough water on Scorched planet to form large bodies of water, which is not entirely illogical/impossible.

An "Arid" biome is alway identified as having Cactus Flesh on the top of its natural resource list, which is not needed as part of the weekly community event.
lol ive played since launch, so i should know better, but in my defense i just travelled from world to world exploring and not really paying attention to the specifics of a world unless it was a hazard world

You need to find planets which has solanium on them. Those will do as "scorched" planets. You will find water on a lot of them.

No worries, I also tried for a cactus planet during the search for scorched water worlds. The main thing that clued me in to why it didn't work is that at night, the cactus planet was cold, rather than hot.
This quest is crap!!! I've wasted many hours and warp cells looking for water on scorched worlds. Every one I find is bone dry!!! Has anyone found a wet scorched world that has a portal address?
I actually found a water world that is a scorched planet, is mostly small islands and water.

Seriously this wouldn't be an issue if Timeline is actually tracking all of the planets that one has visited.

Since one could just look up a scorched planet in timeline, and use the space station teleporter to get back to that system with relative ease.
