What the heck do you tap (keyboard, mouse) to flee from the abyssal horror?

I found the best way to get past them was diving straight for the door with jetpack assist on for speed. (space bar on PC)

Well, it killed me - tried tapping E and closed the cmd circle for no result perhaps because I am only able to use my right hand, and am not able to tap E and simultaneously swim away? I've mapped my movements to the arrow keys at the other side of my kb.

thanks for that - I worked it out, but still am unable to waste the critter - going to do it all again, as my grave (when I got to it) was empty - as I got killed again while trying to retrieve it. :-(

You can kill it from a small distance with the boltcaster. Swim just close enough that it opens its eye and looks at you and then immediately shoot the eye out. It'll drop onto the sea bottom (a 'hypnotic eye') and you can collect and sell it. Be *sure* you're reloaded before you try this - DAMHIKT.

Same just happened to me. Unable to break free and got killed. Argh. :-( I could barely read what key it said for "tap to flee", but looked like "E". Tapping that did nothing. Googled away and everyone says "tap E". Nope. Dead. Like Psyclos (from above comments), I remapped keys so movement = arrow keys. For me, "E" = tag or place marker. I think, in my case, I needed to tap "del" = interact. Didn't think to check my maps before dying.
